I'd forgotten most of that stuff. Haven't used the CB since my last out of state vacation-about 10 years ago. IDK if they're even used any more.

I just ran across an old (original) Cobra 29 and Antenna Specialists M-410 (Big Momma) I used back in the 70's. That radio with various antennas was used in more cars and trucks than I can remember.

I still see trucks with CB antennas. Especially in remote areas such as logging roads and the frozen north. Then there are satellite based systems for more remote areas where there are no cell towers.

A phone app like the one below is probably more common these days. Everyone can monitor where the truck is, how fast, estimated arrival, etc.

Yeah, I've still got one hooked up in one of my vans with a quick disconnect mast for the antenna. Last time I turned it on, by the time I squelched out the static, the range was prolly less than a mile. There was still chatter out there, though. One of my previous vans had a door mount spare tire. I had a 102" whip mounted on the tire rack frame. Prolly about 13'4" to the tip. It "got out".

I had a CB radio in my car in the 80's because I was driving at night a lot to and from gigs, so I felt like it gave me a measure of safety in case there was an emergency. I was too shy at the time to ever start up a conversation with anyone though.

I had a CB radio in my car in the 80's because I was driving at night a lot to and from gigs, so I felt like it gave me a measure of safety in case there was an emergency. I was too shy at the time to ever start up a conversation with anyone though.

Back in the day even the state police monitored CB traffic in their cruisers/interceptors. Big cities often had volunteer groups called REACT (I think that was the name) that monitored channel 9 on a 24/7 basis and could get you help. Additionally, every truck stop I ever pulled into (East Coast) monitored channel 10, and then later 19 so folks could keep in touch and keep up with what was going on. You were actually within earshot of someone around a city or on an interstate most of the time IME.

Had me a CB back in the day. Handle was Barnacle Bill as I was in the Navy at the time. This would have been mid-70's. Came in very handy driving back and forth between Philly and Rochester, NY. 360 miles...made it in 5:15 once in my '72 Javelin; "The Screaming Green Weenie".

...a highly underrated car IMO. While I was mostly driving GM products (cars and trucks) in the 70's, I always thought the Javelins and AMX's were fine cars.

One of my band mates would scare the crap out of me when I rode in his 390 AMX. That was a serious muscle car!

The car that induced most serious droolage for this one in the mid-70s is the VW Scirocco. My 1975 ride that superseded the VW 412 is the VW Golf in fiesta orange. (um now I need a bass in exactly that colour ). Saw a Porsche Cayman Wednesday and wondered if I could fit my rig in there. Yet as I sat in the waiting room at my doctor's on Monday, noticed a magazine cover asking if I would rather a Boxster or Z4 this summer.

Owned a Z3 and replaced it with an M3 and replaced that with a S4 and friends are all asking if I grew up or something. Naw.

Had one of these given to me. It was black with a white roof. people thought it was a cop car. Esp. 'cos I had a CB antenna on it.
