Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

It's not Cantonese but it is elbow room for grumpiness: finding a restaurant that serves proper Ma Po's Bean Curd is harder to find than a perfect metaphor. I have to make it myself to get it close to right.

Had to look up MaPo’s Bean Curd.

In this case, what they are calling bean curd looks like tofo. The bean curd that I’ve bought is a dessert. It looks more like agar, a thickened gel, used in micro-biology labs to culture organisms.

We did Aussie (um, if you can call it that) food tonight (Outback Steakhouse :D). Still looking for an authentic wombat burger.

Tomorrow is Asian (all you can eat buffet), for a send-off of a couple of family members who (love Kumo: Kumo Japanese Seafood Buffet - All You Can Eat - Parma, OH 44134) are moving back to south Florida (not sure why though, as our weather the past couple of days and into Sunday is just like the weather - heat and humidity - as down there).

Gawd bless ewe mah Sun! ;)
It's funny; I've found through the years that, when it comes to people with limited skills who know they are limited, there are two types. The first type is the one who feels threatened by anyone who is better than they are so they find people who aren't as good to work with so that they'll look good by comparison.

The second type is the one who looks better than they are because they surround themselves with stellar talent who do a lot of heavy lifting, so no one notices the one player's limitations. I'm definitely limited, and I tend to be more in the second group, though admittedly I don't have a clue what I'd do if I were asked to play with another bassist who had mad skilz I don't have.

Yes! That was my point of bring up binary test when Charlie pointed out what we were not supposed to discuss here. It's a way to "encrypt" the text. Similar to speaking binary as a language and using an ascii to binary converter like we've been doing, google translate can be used to translate between different languages.

This is the above text translated to Irish with google translate (https://translate.google.com).

Tá! Ba é sin mo phointe tástála dénártha nuair a chuir Charlie in iúl nach raibh sé i gceist againn a phlé anseo. Is bealach é chun an téacs a chriptiú. Is féidir le sraitheanna dénártha a labhairt mar theanga agus tiontaire ascii go dénártha a úsáid mar atá déanta againn, aistriúchán google a úsáid chun teangacha éagsúla a aistriú.

The band I'm currently in has some incredible players in it. A couple of them have toured with national acts in the past and one was on the USO circuit for several years. I know the two bass players that preceded me and both could smoke me on the instrument with out raising a sweat. The problem was (as I understand it) they were so good that they had trouble backing off and just playing the songs. Since I don't have those mad skills , I don't have to worry about backing off and can just play the songs and keep the groove which I am very good at. I also have no problem helping to set up and tear down at the end of the night. There's a lot more to it than just being able to shred the instrument. I'm here and they are not. Just saying.:bassist:

Looking at the binary text reminds me of the early days of digital printers when halftoning was used. I worked on techniques for better representations of digital images. Spacing individual pixels as well as those grouped in patterns. It's funny, our eyes perform low and high pass filtering in these type of images. The filters that we use in audio are based on nature.

As you would know, newspapers used the techniques dating back to the 1800's. It was an amazing technology for them at the time. Years later it was adapter for computers.

It's true, gifted players often want to overplay to demonstrate their abilities. I find that it can get boring fast. There are many amazing players that have put out albums that never went anywhere. A gifted songwriter is something else. Much better to have in your band.

Yep, tofu.

Some while ago a friend was on a anti-tofu crusade for her family as a result of undercomprehension picked up from the InterWebs regarding soy and estrogen.

Tofu works well for me as something enhanced by other ingredients. Today at the growers' market, picked up organic aubergines, courgettes, garlic, cilantro and red plums.

And behold, the mediocre bassist's club.

My personal take regarding cold type feels a great deal like the show competitions between horses and those new-fangled steam powered locomotives. The compositors of old who never wore a wedding ring on account of the Linotype keyboard being a tricky thing were slow to cede authority to computer type. The center of the cyclone! And never in all my born days have I ever seen a more useless language, typographically speaking, than HTML. grump grump grump
