Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Paying a dollar a minute for the connect charges would make my head spin.

Necessary expense report deduction.

My own expense report deduction was the beeper, not the combat phone. They make us sign the contract for the beeper, put it on a company-issued credit card in my name (for which I hold full responsibility), and bill the company. In return, I pay off the monthly bill on the card when all my expenses are reimbursed. Some of those bills can get pretty steep, what factoring in hotels, meals, rental cars. Meal allowances depend on where we are and who we're with. It is possible to expense dinner at Smith and Wollensky. :D

Yeah. We'd go out for dinner after a gig. Someone would ask "We have any new bookings?" Business dinner.:smug:

The cost of the plane ticket can add the bill as well...

A lot of companies make you apply for the credit card, even though their name is on it. They are good at paying in a timely way but it’s still your credit rating at risk.

It was common in the past for people to cheat on their expense accounts. When I was a kid I worked at a gas station. Some people would come in and buy $5 in gas and ask for a receipt for $50. They’d swear at you mighily if you didn’t comply.

Life here in the future sure feels futuristic.

Life here in my present doesn't feel quite as nostalgic as I thought it would, watching a very early 21st century then-state-of-the-art flat display Trinitron CRT TV while the 55" LCD HDTV is in the shop for repair. :( Mrs. Dog joined me for but 15 minutes reminiscing about our childhoods with black & white TVs, then she was done! "We really need to upgrade this guest room TV, ... NOW!", she says. "But, honey, then everybody will always want to stay over! Don't you prefer when they just leave, instead?", says I. "Not when it's the grandkids!!", she glares. I managed to negotiate a 24-hour deadline only because she has quilting to do. Gotta wake up a grandkid tomorrow morning to help carry. :rollno:

Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you. Some days it's Smith and Wollensky in Midtown and some days it's Denny's in North Dakota.

Some offices want absolutely every single receipt and vending machines don't give receipts. Reckon if folks see management is giving them a fair deal they'll make a fair deal in exchange. (Of course that's not to dismiss the sort who just don't give a Hooters.) Alert management is keen to the signs of road burn. Good management does something about it before road burn becomes road kill.

I prefer to deliver viral vectors the old fashioned way. Some day trippers may use gifs to get them half the way there.

Not to beat(le) this Trojan horse to death, but, just to be clear, I was not using viral in the meme sense, but the actual, factual kill-a-person's-computer sense.

ETA: P.S. Is there a place where I can get a picture of a cross-section of a vacuum tube (e.g., a 6L6GC)? I want to get a feel for its dimensions and relate that back to electron beam optics. I'm trying bit by bit to understand these things from the ground up. Thanks. (A cursory search for this yielded me nothing.)

ETA (further): PPS. Are all tubes in this day and age driven by indirectly heated cathodes? Is it always the case that schematics ignore the filament circuits? More thanks.

O, I thought you were talking about delivering DNA inside cells, that viral vector.

A gif is a series of images. Can malware code be imbedded inside images? Yes. There would have to be a trojan horse that could unpack and assemble the virus from code in the images. There are far easier ways to accomplish this.

Virus scanning software on your computer is a good investment. It looks for identified code segment markers that indicate the presence of something undesirable.

I use this product: Malwarebytes Cybersecurity for Windows, Mac, Android & iOS

Since a gif is a loop, it does present a small load to the Computer, slowing it down but not in a meaningful way.
