GHS Balanced Nickel strings

So far the boomers seem like a nice middle ground but I'm waiting to see how they age after reading all the posts here about them dying very quickly.

One's "dead" is another's "well-broken-in". People who complain about the Boomers "dying too quickly" are usually the ones who feed on the zing of fresh rounds.

There is a reason why they're called "Boomers" and not "Zingers". ;):D

Yeah I'm hoping that's the case with the boomers. I'm ok with a broken in nickel sound on the bass I have them on.

I tried a set of these on my shiny new Supro Huntington and, IMO, they're an upgrade from the stock chrome flats.

Weird thing I noticed is that the "E" string seems to be different than the other 3.

In the proper light, the "E" looks bright and shiny while the other 3 seem to be darker

Anyone know what's the story?

Sounds fine, I'd probably prefer the "E" to be slightly thicker for a bit better pitch definition but overall, I like them.

That's a weird photo - it seems to be all blurry between the E and D strings, while left of the E and right of the D seems sharper - right down the whole neck.

I also notice the E suddenly stops being shiny above ("below" in the picture) the 15th fret - I'm guessing that's a result of a shadow from the strap. if so, perhaps the E only looks shiny in the photo because there is light hitting it from the left, whereas the other strings are shaded by the neck.

Anyway, I had a good look on my bass and the BN string colour/texture seems uniform across the whole set. You'd almost say "balanced".

It's more noticeable live...

Sort of a crappy pic, but I mostly wanted to show the color diff.

It's the same the entire string. "E" string is def different than the others.

I still like the strings a lot, but it seems odd.

Hmm, no, I didn't see that on mine. If what I see in your picture is representative of what it looks like in person, I would wonder if maybe you somehow got a messed up set? Not sure!

That's my guess...

"E" is definitely different in the set I got. Sounds different as well.

Pitch is relatively indistinct compared to the other 3.

I like them enough to try them again sometime.

Hopefully all 4 will match.

I would contact GHS. I'm sure they would appreciate the feedback and make sure you have a serviceable set of strings.

GHS TS response was very timely and I learned that the wrap on the "E" string is different than the others which causes it to look different.

Makes sense.

I like the strings a lot, the "E" just looks different.

Pitch issues are more about the short scale bass rather than the strings, I'd guess

Not different; same material. But, bigger than the others because the .105 is being made with TWO covers now instead of the traditional THREE. And, because it's bigger that's why it "looks" different.

As for pitch issues, I haven't had any on my Supro Huntington or Hofner Beatle Bass with them. What kind of issues are you having?

Are you using long-scale BNs on the Hofner?
