...and I'm already thinking about a certain project... just moving that bridge a little further and replacing the fingerboard....

I'm guessing it's the humbucking T Bird pickup the also use in the modern SG. Which would probably sound pretty great in that position.

I like how you're already planning an irreversible mod. That is the Talkbass way.

well, I'm guessing the street price would be around $700. thus, buying one and modding to death would be cheaper than building a new bass from the scratch.

You highly doubt that $999 will be the street price? I don't. Gibson hasn't shown a separate MSRP for several years. Starting in 2016 or maybe a year or two earlier, Gibson has shown just one price for each model, and that's the same actual price charged at the online retailers. Don't take my word for it, look at the prices shown now on Gibson's website, then look at the retailers' sites.

I have never been more excited for a bass than this Les Paul Junior Tribute DC. I wanted a Mustang but the new Performer series have that silly jazz pickup. When I saw this bass I just knew it was meant to be. Now I just have to choose between black, brown and blue. Can’t wait to be a Gibson owner!

They could always change it between now and whenever it ships to the stores, but whatever the price is on their website will be the price at Musicians Friend and the other online stores. There won't be a $999 list price and a $700 actual price because Gibson doesn't do things that way anymore.

To add validity to this claim, Chicago Music Exchange said they are gonna be $999 on Instagram. Now I must be off to order short scale flatwounds and a strap that perfectly goes with brown, blue or black.

I'm set. I have an extra black leather strap and an extra set of D'addario tapewounds. They should blend well with the blue.

A nice hands-on review from another thread:

I tried them at NAMM this past weekend. And I have to say, I am seriously considering it.
To note: I, like many, am a P-bass guy. I've had jazz basses, a cort, and an ibanez, but I always ended back with a P-bass. But I am on the hunt for a short scale
Another note: It is serioulsly considered only because I tried another short scale that really blew my mind in terms of sound and feel at namm, the Nordstrand Acynonix bass. Otherwise, the Gibson is a definite winner.
Both very different for each other, but I could see myself from both. The Nordstrand is very light, super easy and fun to play, with a lot of tonal sculptability. The Gibson, in contrast, is really firm in my hands, has a solid foundational tone that is really nice low endy with some grind, but its what you get from it, like it or not. The slab body in comparison feels like it take a hit, and the finishes are beautiful. The worn brown is not as red as it appears in that picture that was previously posted (at least to me). The black version is also a stained black so it is a bit brown, not a true black. Red was cool, and I did not see the blue. For me, it'd be brown forsure.
