I used a Mooradian double bag for ~20 years, and it was still in like-new condition when I sold it. Agree that it doesn't offer as much protection as the more modern bags, and the single pocket w/ foam divider makes getting one bass but not the other out a bit awkward at times, but I think it's still worth looking into, especially since they seem to have improved the straps recently.
That being said, I sold my Mooradian and bought a Mono M80 Dual and I'm happy as the proverbial pig in poo.
I know it is not a gig bag, but this is what I use and I can't be happier with it, both portability and mobility. I put my bass and my warr guitar on it, each on its own gig bag, and I move around with total freedom. These things are built like a tank and the gear travels super safely. Price wise, also the best choice

I'm not sure that I've ever used it for only one bass. It would be a lot bulkier than a single bag, but I can't think of a reason why you couldn't carry just a single bass in a Mono double bag.
Nope, I've never flown with a bass but a gig bag's dimensions are far outside the typical dimensions I've always seen for carry on bags, so I'd suggest checking with your specific airline if you want to fly with one. Maybe they could help you figure out how to handle that.
Another +1 for the Mono Dual M80. I've had mine for about a year and a half and love it so much that I bought the single Mono M80 to use when I have rehearsals when two basses are not needed.

I use an inexpensive World Tour every weekend. Never had a problem and made pretty well for the money. Worth a look.

I notice too that Mono (courtesy of kesslari's link) is running a December special for this bag-- $329 (which is same price as everywhere else) but with a FREE guitar "tick" bag (retail $89 on its own). The tick bag is an "add-on" compartment to expand the bag's storage capacity. I might have to invest in one, and if I do, I will be sure to order direct from Mono and get the free tick bag too. Thanks for the heads-up, kesslari.
That's a $55 bag too. If it holds up, it's a good deal. I have a World Tour single bag, which is nothing too remarkable, but is quite passable. Maybe not ideal for long tours, but more than good enough for trips from home to gig and back again.
I've got a Mono double bag that I've been very happy with. It's been rained on pretty good too and the basses stayed dry. The straps are on there really good and don't tear away from the bag over time like some gig bags do. They are a bit pricey but you do get what you pay for. They have good cargo space too for things like cables, pedals, etc. and a lot of other little spots for things I find all the time I didn't know were there. My basses aren't light either. I have a 9 lb. Valenti and a 12 lb. 6 string Cirrus.

I had a full leather Levys double gig bag for a number of years (it helped being an endorser, because retail they are quite expensive). It held up really well and had nice protection, but for me it was just so heavy on its own, that once you added in two basses it got a bit unbearable. I sold it when the bulk of my doubling turned to electric and electric/upright basses, which made any double gigbag impossible.
i've had an undercover bag for about 6 years or so- got it used. still holds up, often with 2 11+ pound basses inside.
the undercover is hands down the best. problem is, as far as i know, they don't make 'em anymore. i have seen used ones pop up for sale, and if its in good shape its worth grabbing. they're expensive but worth it.
I fly all the time with a bass and usually a gig bag fits just fine (and by law, they go as carry on). I've seen regular mono cases in the planes but never a dual. Would hate to be the first one trying lol.
For what it's worth, I have the single version of this, and while it's not the most protective bag I have, it's one of the lightest and least expensive.

I think the Mono bag is the way to go. But the real secret is to have (2) light basses. (2) heavy basses even without a double bag is gonna be heavy...
