GK 112-II NEO

Heard on a different thread I think that the badges have backing plates that can be removed. I'm going to try this afternoon.

On a different tip, I ordered that cover for my cab from RMC Direct, and it's backordered (doesn't say so anywhere on their site). They say it's been on backorder for 6 weeks now. GK doesn't make them themselves... so... no telling when i'm actually going to get the cover. oh well.

Yes, I have, and it's a great matchup. These NEO-II cabs are pretty big and bright sounding, and the slightly warmer and mid focused RH450 sounds really really nice with them IMHO.

Not that I don't go talking about how much I love my GK stuff all the time... but I would prefer the look of an unbranded cab.

the grill doesn't have a uniform pattern to it--underneath the badges there's a backing plate that is built into the grill itself. so the badges stay on, and i'll wear them proud. when folks in the back of the room are having their sternums vibrated by my 2 12's, they'll know it is GK that is doing it to them. ;)

Well, I guess I just consider it to be not worth the effort. If it doesn't affect cab performance, I'm not messing with it. :) I thought you were gonna' tell me the badges were buzzing or something.

I just got a Neo112 II in the mail to pair with my 400RB, but it is making an annoying buzz/rattle when I turn it up past bedroom levels. Is there anything I should try to do to fix it before I send it back? Anyone else have this issue? I don't think it is the grill. I was putting pressure on it while hitting notes and it wasn't making a difference.

There are two possible issues. The speaker wire could be touching the cone, in which case you could remove the crossover plate and move the wires out of the way. The logo should have a gasket behind it to prevent rattles, check to see that it is there. If these are not the problem you should send it back because there is something really wrong.

Finally got a chance to put my pair through the paces at soundcheck this morning (gig this evening). Not bad for those little cabs. Definitely a lot more stage presence that I thought I'd have. Not quite as bright as I'd like. I was using a Genz Benz Shuttle 6. Would a GK-1001RBII give me more top end?? Markbass LMIII (which I own)?

Not as bright as you'd like? Wow, mine seem plenty bright. What amp were you using, with what kind of bass and settings (on the amp and bass), and what kind of speakers (and I guess amps) were you using before? Got the attenuators set at least mid-way on the cabs?

Also, these cabs seem pretty bottom heavy natively compared to other cabs, so maybe try dropping a bit of the bass on the amp to even things out and maybe bring the highs out a bit more might make it a bit more like what you're used to or want to have?

You've piqued my curiosity. :)

Amp was a GB Shuttle 6. Bass at 3 o'clock, both mids at noon and treble maxed. Had all 3 boost buttons engaged. My bass was set flat. I could stand to add some treble from the bass. Tweeter atts were set at 3 o'clock. I still think it's the tweeters. I previously used Avatar cabs (older non-neo 2x10 & 1x12). Same amps.

Ok, I'm a COMPLETE IDIOT. You said the amp in the post I responded to :rollno: :o. THANKS for being cool about that part. :)

WOW, that's a big scoop setting, with a LOT of scooping controls turned on. That would destroy me in a mix... and it could be a setting that works best only with the Avatars... totally differently voiced cabs IMHO. Let's try something...

Back all those tone controls to flat, except maybe leave your treble boosted. Turn the buttons off. Set the parametric all the way up to 2K, and bump that somewhere between 1-3:00, and turn up the overall gain a bit to compensate for less gain in the EQ by comparison, and maybe boost the bass to taste AFTER you listen to that.

See what you think.

My theory is, you're missing something in the "high mid/low treble" region which is creating a hole between the mids and the high EQ (4K on the S6), which I think is in a bad place for the kind of high end that truly cuts a mix best. I think if you "bridge that gap" with some 2K, you may find your missing high end. Also, make sure you test it in a mix too. Solo at home, it may sound a bit harsh or ganky... especially to someone who's used to a scoopy kinda' sound.

Just a theory. You can try it and tell me if the theory holds water or not. :)

Thanks for the tips. My settings aren't bad. Everything is clear and defined. Just missing that top end sizzle. I also had 10's in the mix previously. Gotta get used to using 2 12's. It's a different sound for me. Honestly, those tweets are subdued as compared to the ones on my Avatars. I'll try those settings tonight.

Is it possible that you have the Neo112-II's set to Bi-Amp mode?

Nope. Both set to Full Range. I am getting upper range but just not the sizzle I'm used to without having to boost the treble on my bass. It's more of an old school tone I'm getting. It's not bad. I'm still experimenting with the eq. Will try the Markbass LMIII on the next gig and see if it's the amp. Again, I think it's also that I'm using 12's now and I'm not used to the sound. I've always had either 2x10's or 4x10's.

Ok. I still think my idea might help in this area then. I know you said it's sizzle you're missing, but I really wonder if it's just that the sizzle isn't riding on enough right under it (which the 10's would certainly have more of) to help bring it out more.

Anyway, curious to know if my idea is any help at all, and NO problem if not. :)
