GK 112-II NEO

I have a Schroeder 1210L right now that I do like, but I am lacking low end. I was wondering if the GK112-II NEO would be a good replacement for small gigs (50-150 ppl) and would provide more low end with my BX500? I'm looking at all the possibilities, also a possible fEArful build, but these look well priced. What do you think?

In my experience, 2 of these paired together give you a ton of low end. On my gig, I can't raise my volume past 8-9 o'clock. I have enough volume and low end. Too much volume and they will fart out.

Just this last week, I did two big stage/smaller venue shows on multi-band "get on get off" tickets.
I took one Neo112 and the MB-F head, thinking, "if it's not loud enough, I'll just ask for foldback thru the monitors.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that one really was plenty, and did the next two small club venues with one cab. These were the 50-150 person type clubs you ask about, and frankly, I always took two cabs in there, just cause I like the vertical stack and what it does for my personal near-field monitoring.
At both these jobs I had the chance to have a buddy sit in so I could go out and hear the room.
The one Neo112 carried both the stage, and the venue effectively, and I'll only be traveling one cab to those joints from here on out.

Keep in mind, these were not loud bands, we were using one Bose stick/two subs for the PA, and only mics went into that. Both guitarist and pianist were using small 112 combos...

I actually rolled bass off from noon to 11 oclock in all these instances. The bassist that sat in rolled it back a bit more than that.

Thanks! This is usually the kind of setups we use and if it gets bigger, there is always PA support to help out. I could eventually rent another cab for an occasional outdoor gig with no PA support, but there is rarely one. You know, at first I thought of buying a bigger cab than I needed in case I'd get a big gig. But after doing 4 gigs with my Schroeder, although it IS so damn loud, I never had to put my amp past 3-4 to get the volume I needed, so I am thinking that one 12" should be plenty for what I do and would get my low end back (I play a Yamaha BB1024X and prefer the splits).

That Schro has no low end to speak of. The GKs will kill it for anything under 250Hz IME.

Some pages back, someone posted about painting the Neo112 cab grills black.
So, I did.

Pull 'em, removed badges, scuff the grills up with a scotchbrite pad, wipe them down, hit them with krylon industrial enamel black, rest over night, re-install badges, reinstall grills.

Much better to my eye, and now they match everything else I have for when I feel like putting one under my Walkabout Scout, which actually sounds really good.

has anyone had an issue with the 700rb-II pushing too much power to this cab? I have been using 1 Neo 112-II with this head for almost a year now and am starting to notice the low end causing the speaker to distort a little. I have never turned the volume knob up more than 12 o'clock when using only 1 of these cabs (as recommended when I called GK). However it still sounds like the cab cannot quite handle the lower end as well as when I first got it, except at really low volume. Just wondering if anyone else has experience the 700rb hurting the speaker (while not just blasting the volume on the head)?

Where do you have the Master and Boost levels ?

What a great thread :) Just finished reading it and ordered two Neo 112. I also ordered an Ampeg PF-500 head to feed them, I guess this is going to be an interesting ultra light weight stack. Anyone has a feeling (Maybe nobody tried this combination yet..) of how an Ampeg Portaflex-500 may sound through two of these babies?

Count me in, just bought a used neo 112 II from fellow TB'er in the classifieds. Gonna pair it up with my MB 200, and, if not loud enough, then my RB 700 II. Hope this cab lives up to the hype.

My thing is I purposely bought short cables just because I hate overly long cables! Then I decide to stack mine vertically and one cable wouldn't reach the bottom cab. I could have daisy chained but did not have a 1/4" cable on hand. These cabs have only a single Speakon connection.

I'm waiting for delivery on my Neo II 112. I already have a Berg HT12 that I love but am looking for a little lighter cab frequent use. I am hoping to, at time, stack the Berg with the GK. Should be doable. I use GK 700RB -II head. Thoughs?

Ceramic + Neo not entirely a good thing but you can always try.. :)
