GK Legacy Combos

The Legacy series looks awesome but I'm pretty much already invested in the MB combos, just waiting for an MBP 112 to match up to my MB 112ii. I'm excited for those of you who own it or have it on order.

To Mr. Robert Gallien, is there any chance you could come out with an MBP 110 to match up with the MB110? There is something magical about my MB 110 that is not quit present in my MB 112ii. Call it a woodyness or whatever but it's something special. Matching a MBP 112/ MBP 115 to my MB 110 just wouldn't do it justice. Two of these working in unison would sound killer for smaller venues or in the studio! I've heard many others wanting a MBP 110 also, I believe it would sell like hot cakes! Thanks for listening.

Hey all, I need to give a big shout-out to the folks at GK and their support staff.

I bought a "Like New" GK Legacy 112 off the Classifieds here at TalkBass. The amp arrived in like-new condition, except for one thing. The amp-head wasn't tightly secured to the cabinet.

It was pretty clear the original owner monkeyed a bit with the head, for reasons unknown. But he didn't own up to it, so the issue was mine.

I got an RA# from the folks at GK and they fixed the issue no questions asked. They did an excellent repair and sent the amp back. BEAUTIFUL.

So great having a USA company with solid support. They've won me over with their "above and beyond" service.

Cheers to GK.

PS. The Legacy 112 is Thunderous (and insanely light!).

RAG, Speaking of the MB combos, my MB108 is noticably heavier than my MB110. This seems odd with the MB110 having a larger speaker and bigger power amp. Is my MB110 possibly missing parts☺? For reference this is my second MB110. The first one was noticably more heavy than my MB 108. It was shortly exchanged for the MB 112 ii. Later on I began to miss the little MB110 and bought another, the one I have now. The first time I picked it up I was surprised how light it was, lighter than my MB108, very strange! Would appreciate your comment. Thx

Just received my new GK Legacy 210 combo! I picked it up at the nearest FedEx office this morning (wouldn't want this sitting on the porch) and once home, got to unpacking. Box was clean no obvious abuse (I took pictures of the box at the FedEx store just in case) and everything looked as it should once unboxed. This is one rugged compact amp. It has a carry strap on top and since it ways in about 37lbs, it isn't that bad moving around the house (if it's gonna be a long distance load in, still gonna need a dolly). Ok, ok, how's it sound right? I set the bass, lo mid, hi mid, and treble to 12 o'clock and left the bump, contour, and presence off. I didn't turn on the overdrive switch yet and set master volume to about a 1/4. Trim was on 1/3, drive and level about 11o'clock.

I plugged in my Ibanez SR805 and was pleasantly surprised by the tightness of the sound. It's got the GK growl but only updated, if that makes sense . Now the tweaking started with the bump, contour, and presence toggles. I settled on bump off, contour on, presence off. This really made my Ibanez's natural wood timbre finally come out. It has such a sweet harmonic tone with this amp!
Next I switched the overdrive on..... ummm... ummm. Man this thing KICKS!! Yep that's overdrive.. it went from melodic, deep thumping bass to, HEAR ME and yes, I will cut through the mix easily! On overdrive, this thing is a beast, again this is with bump and presence off, trim at 12, drive at 11, and level at 12o'clock. With overdrive in this configuration, depending where you set your treble on your bass, you will hear every nuance of your playing. If your fingering is sloppy, this amp will let you and everyone else know it with the overdrive on. Of course you can back it down but why? Need to be on top of that mix!
Have I mentioned bump is still off? About that, once you toggle it on, Windows start shaking, wife starts yelling, and neighbor's gotta be thinking them lowriders gotta be driving by or are parked out in front of their houses. Oh by the way, did I mention master is still on 1/4?
I also played my Harley Benton PB50 (total Precision tone, low and with a growl) and my Ibanez Gary Willis Anniversary 5 string fretless (sweet tone and infinite sustain) through it and each gives a different tone and perception. It has a very tight, modern tone that brings me up to date in my sound and with this solid of a build should last me for the long haul. The only negative is the standby light.. it stays on when amp is off. Makes me keep thinking that the power isn't off....
In short my initial impressions are money well spent and I'm very happy with the tone this amp produces. I can't wait to gig it and will update when I do. All this sound out of 2 10inch speakers? Man we've come a long way in technology and this GK ROCKS!
