Global Warming - It's Our Fault

They are working to introduce fracking in my state. We have small deposits of natural gas, and very little infrastructure/trained local workforce to handle the work, so in order to attract the attention of the industry, the director of the department of environment and natural resources is proposing that we roll back our environmental regulations further on a practice that hasn't begun or been proven safe in our region. This is a guy who was quoted recently as saying that environmentalists would have us all wearing loincloths and living in lean-to's. In fact, our entire environmental commission has now stated that fracking is guaranteed to be so safe that they have decided to turn down federal grants to test wells in areas that are to be fracked. I am no expert on fracking, but anytime a political hack is carrying water for out-of-state billionaire industrialist polluters, I am immediately skeptical of what they are saying.

Fracking technology ( though not advanced and not economically feasible) has existed since somewhere before 1920. NY state I believe.

I think that you will agree that fracking in the US has greatly increased in recent decades.

At any rate, local neighborhood dry cleaning facilities are probably a greater environmental threat to more people than fracking.

I also will agree that natural gas deposits are insanely massive, basically undepletable and it is possibly the greenest viable form of commercially available energy on the planet.

I get it though. Oil is bad. LP is bad. Nuclear and coal are bad. Basically humans utilizing any natural resources is bad.

Like I said, people with agendas.

It's not just the Ph level but the rate of change. CO2 levels have been higher in the past but the rate of change has historically been much slower. Current rates are to quick for critters to evolve. Big problem.

Read a good Scientific American article that looked at four specific warming periods in the distant past and they showed a very strong correlation between the rate of warming, rate of CO2 accumulation, and total species extinctions.

Then they noted our current rate of CO2 accumulation was much higher, looking over a long time period of about 400 years, than the highest rate they studied. The rate of current temperature change, which is lagging behind CO2, was also much higher than the worst period they studied.

Yeah, nothing catastrophic could happen to the earth because it never has. If geologists were as good as they think they are, they would accurately predict earthquakes.

There is no evidence so geologists just say catastrophes can't happen?

My point was what if? I used hyperbole of doubling to point to the fact the earth is a ball of toxic crud that pukes on itself and has no regard for life.

There was one guy who famously took video of the water from his faucet catching fire. He of course was some sort of activist and there is also video of him and about 20 other activists sitting around his house when he received the letter from the EPA stating that his well was perfectly fine and had been temporarily contaminated by a pocket of naturally occurring methane gas. This ass threw a fit like a little girl.


Like I said earlier, there has been fracking in the US since as early as the teens and it has been a regular practice since the 40s and there is not a single documented case where fracking has been proven to be the cause of a contaminated well or water table. This is a manufactured crisis by people with an agenda, period.

If you mean I like to pay my bills, heat my house and cook my food, then yeah. I said it pays my bills, I don't own the company nor do I get millions of dollars in grants which are contingent on specific conclusions. The natural gas industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the world. Still not enough for some it seems.
