I think the design is cool. Will it help people learn to play guitar? Who knows...
But really, I think actual instruments are on the way out. It might take 50 or 100 or more years, but playing an instrument that requires physical skill and practice will start to seem quirky and anachronistic at some point. I can't even say it's a bad thing. The physical part of playing an instrument is just an athletic achievement. True musical creation happens in the brain. If you level the playing field (say with a direct mind-to-computer interface), then EVERYONE can play 25 notes a second. When it's not special any more, the only way to distinguish yourself will be to have brilliant musical ideas. Just as has already started to happen with music, there will a lot more crap out there, but there will also be amazing new creations using the new technology. I'm guessing there are people out there who are potential compositional and musical geniuses, but have trouble developing the physical skills. I can't play amazing piano, but I can hear incredible piano concertos in my head. I wouldn't mind directly transferring that to a computer.
