Going for walks, seeing some cool cars.

Unless you're handy with a wrench, I'd avoid a Jaguar of this era..... reliability has never been one of their strong points.

I hear you, Mike.

It's just that I loved the long, sleek Jags.
I looked up the price on these, and a 2000 Jag will go for as little as $5,000, depending on condition, naturally.
Truth is, I don't need a car.
Public transport near me is superb and if I need to go to Jersey to see my family, interstate transport is also very good.
If I'm lazy, and feeling rich, I can take an Uber. Buying a Jag is just wishful thinking.
I'm having enough trouble trying to buy a sax. :D

A friend of mine, who came into some money bought a new 2014 Jag in 2015 for $66,000.
What a car! He had it appraised recently, and I think a dealer told him they would give him $23,000!
That's taking a beating!
So, he went out and bought a 2018 Jag SUV. This guy doesn't know what to do with his money.
Now, he's looking at an Aston Martin SUV.
He said it's $210,000.

He could probably swing it.

To each their own.

Mike

Pic one.... 500 cubes of brute force and ignorance under that hood. Too bad by the time that particular car was built the engine had been down tuned to meet mid 70's smog regulations. But, in it's heyday the 500 cube Caddy engine produced 425 horses and 550 ft/lbs of torque all in by 2800 RPM..... and it was 100 lbs lighter than a 454 Chevy engine was. The torque curve was darn near flat from idle to redline and while it stuck it's tongue out around 4500 rpm, it tore your head off getting there. Perfect engine for a low RPM grunt motor application.

Pic two.... No idea.

Pic three.... Some sort of old Ford factory drag car that is likely worth stupid money if it's real and not a clone. I'd like to see a closer pic of the fender emblem to see if it reads 390 or 427.

Pic four.... same as pic two (read- no idea).

#2, I believe, is a Packard

Pic 3 is, I believe, a Ford Galaxie- maybe a 1963. Most of those cars came with a 390( gas was cheap), but some were bored out to 406 cubic inches- mostly to compete with the 409 Chevy. Really cool car- and thread!

With a wrench AND a computer...

In 2015 indulged my dream and bought a 2003 Jaguar XK convertible.
Actually my "true" dream was an E type convertible, but that was way beyond me.
It was a 2003, considered a "good" year for that model, and that era (Ford) was "supposed" to "quite reliable"...
I got a pretty good extended warranty thrown in with the deal.
We burned through that warranty in less than a year - 5K in repairs.
Plus the car tried to kill me (burst oil line on a twisty mountain road - do you know that when an oil line bursts and oil sprays all over the road, your tires lose traction so the ABS kicks on semi-randomly while you swerve at high speeds along the twisties.... ?)

It was, however, glorious to drive and exquisitely comfortable, and (given that I survived its murderous intent) I don't regret having had it. But I'll take my Audi convertible now, thank you.

Car show in town this weekend, and one thing I appreciate about our local car shows that there is always a great variety of stuff. Early Corvette with two-tone root beer interior, two Monte Carlo Aerocoupes, Nash Metropolitan with a 22R, you get the idea.

Walking near the event center gave me these two gems:

Ha - a pulsar with the extended hatchback! My friend had a pulsar (with the normal hatchback) and a group of us were out cruising one night. Went to get ice cream and then decided to meet at my house (lived with my dad at the time) to hang out. I was driving in front with my gf in a Honda Accord, followed by a friend with his gf in a little Nissan pickup, another guy in a VW wagon (that was a sputtering piece of crap) and then my friend in the Pulsar (with two girls in tote).

We get on the freeway and they all passed me but I felt checked in my gut about doing that - so I stayed the speed limit. Off went the Pulsar, followed by the pickup, then the VW (albiet slowly lol), and behind him an uninvited guest - Minnesota Highway Patrol!

My GF and I just started laughing - anyway, got to my exit and MHP has my buddy in the Pulsar pulled over. We all waited forever for him to show up at my house, when he did he said that the cop clocked him at 120. What saved his bacon (meaning - he didn't get a ticket, nevermind arrested for the stunt) is that the HP at the time were on strike and he didn't want to do any paperwork on him.

This was 30 years ago and we recently met back up when I was in MN a few weeks ago and retold the story. Good times...

First pic has a SBC with Power Pack heads, single plane intake, Holley 650 vacuum secondary carb and an HEI distributor with an Accel Super Coil.

Second pic is some relic Nissan Pulsar with the Kammback option. I remember working on those heaps when they were new, and after nearly 39 years as a professional mechanic I can honestly say that I don't miss them.

Last week I was at the national conference of Datsun/Nissan Z-car owners.

MANY cool cars there...the brown & gold one is mine, a 1983...next to it, the red and black one is one of 500, a 10th anniversary model with 15 miles on it and the original tires.

More of the scene...

And here is the brand new Nissan Z, with no number as part of the name - just "Z". It was revealed at the conference.

Wow, the New Z Car kind of has that C7 Corvette Sting Ray look to it.
