Good Recording DI/ preamp

Hey, All,

I just wanted to get your thoughts on a good DI/ preamp for recording bass guitar. Here are some details on the project :
1) Melodic fingerstyle/ strum acoustic guitar/vocal pop a la Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, The Beatles.
2) I will use my Sadowsky 5 string jazzbass ( and I will occasionally use the B string for low D, etc ).
3) Some light drums, flavouring electric guitar, some keyboards for pads/strings.
4) The typical song will have a fair amount of chord movement, so the bass will be more supportive in nature.
And that's it. I look forward to your kind advice on this subject, and I wish you all the very best for the Holidays, and for 2015.

Kicklock

I almost exclusively use my EHX LPD 2ube pedal, for both recording bass and guitar at home.

Adds all from a little nice warm tubyness to your sound over great mild tube OD (with the channels ganged) to more exaggerated OD.

I can only imagine the Avalon preamp suggested sounds even better, but the price follows accordingly, in my opinion nothing else really can compete in the LPD 2ube's price class.

When it comes to band recordings I do however prefer to mic up my cab, over bypassing it with a DI.

(By the way I think this topic should have been posted in the Recording Gear and Equipment forum.)
