GTG - Austin Texas - March 2010!!!!

this sounds fun ... so er I'm a novice player ... got a cheap bass in Jan after not playing for 10ish years ... im relearning everything but it seems easier this time around as some residual stuff is still knocking around in my head...

boo it's the weekend after i have a family trip planned... gah im too lazy to make a trip two weekends in a row ... still sounds like a blast tho specially this bass emporioum you guys are talking about... i will have to stop by when im in town spring break and check it out...

Bass Emporium is definitely worth visiting if you ever find yourself down in Austin! The store has some truly unique, high end boutique basses and rigs that are extremely hard to find anywhere else. It's a nice environment to demo and purchase some of the rarer stuff you hear about online and but don't usually get a chance to play.

A few years back, I got a nice heavy relic fender custom shot jazz there, which I took on a tour of Iraq and Kuwait. Seen here:

Lately, I've been floored by the beautiful, vintage 1966 Oly White Fender Jazz they have behind glass! VERY SEXAH!

I am local and have a number of basses (about 40) I could bring if people are interested in trying a few. I could not open the link of Saturday events, is that when we are going to test drive each others axes? I will post a list of instruments I have later. If anybody sees one they might be interested in playing I will try to bring it with me. Mostly junk stuff like Alembic, Modulus, Spector, etc. :D

Ok just so that I am clear and can't open the itinerary link is there anything planned for Saturday, or just the Bass Emporium event friday evening?

Yeah, I'm a little hazy on this, too. Can someone put this in "plaintext"? :p

I'm a recent addition to Austin and would be happy to host one or two out-of-towners for a few nights if anybody wants to take a miss on the hotel thing. Space is tight in my apartment but we can all get along... Also, Austin has a huge couchsurfing scene, check it out at couchsurfing.org. Almost a guaranteed fun time and a free room somewhere in this city!

Thanks to Tommy for letting me know about this! Would've blown right by me otherwise...

Being the penny pincher I am I would take you up on that but it is me and my dad so I don't think both of us would fit.

And once again, no problem.

On the same note. I think Dark Horse is going to try to come (after I told him too), just if he didn't tell anybody.

The Bass Emporium event is Saturday afternoon/evening. If the link isn't working for you, please check post 21 in this thread for the itinerary.:)

We're gonna catch some music somewhere on Friday night and again on Saturday night, but nothing's set in stone yet. Suggestions are welcome!

*Is anyone able to access the link? Not sure why it isn't working for you guys.

Details:

Be there around 4 PM to smooze and play all kinds of fun basses!

store closes at 5-6 PM (or as soon as all of the customers leave).

Pizza and soda 6 PM or so.

Ed Friedland clinic 6:30 to 7:30 or so (BRING QUESTIONS for Ed)

7:30 to ????? hang out and then find food, beverage and MUSIC!

we will have give aways (i.e. T-shirts, strings etc).

I think the confustion is just that neither on the bass emporium site nor in this post is this clearly marked for Friday or Saturday... unless I'm missing it, too :hiding:

Thanks for clarifying, though - Saturday it is! (I was hoping you were going to say that - I'm a nine to fiver, and would have been late).
