guess the bass in this sample.

guess how many socks are in my sock drawer

LAUGHING! That was hilarious, but this does sound fun so 'll give it a try.

First, LOVE the playing, especially on the first clip soling the bridge pickup, but back to the bass...

It definitely sounds like it has a C string, so it is probably a 6 string bass, or maybe a 5-string bass strung E-A-D-G-C.

In terms of wood, it sounds dark, maybe alder body and rosewood fingerboard.

Also, it sounds like it has single coil J-style pickups, although the soloed bridge pickup sounds, I don't know, less nasal and thicker than a standard J. Maybe like a Lakland or Musicman? But I don't think either of them make a 6-string bass, do they?

I'm going to guess MTD?

Funny, I was talking to a mate this afternoon about how easy it is with modeling these days to make anything sound like something else when you record!

What matters for me is how a bass feels when I'm playing: feel first, tone/sound second! (I say that knowing I'm going to be able to get a decent sound from most 'decent' basses with either my recording set-up or with my rig).

So, this post becomes a showcase for playing and here's me thinking that's what YouTube was for!

Alternatively: I'm thinking of a bass; can anyone guess which one?

Guess how many fingers I am holding up...

This is stupid. If you were actually recording these clean in a studio environment, or for that matter recording them mic'd after coming off a reasonably common live rig, then maybe there could be some point to all of this other than an inexplicable need to draw attention to yourself.

Playing unknown (to us) basses, through an uncommon signal path, and butchering them into an mp3 format to post ONLINE? I would be suprised if anyone guesses it, and why should they?

For the record, I didn't listen to the clips, nor will I.
