there is a five string with some kind of homemade pickguard on ebay right now too that will probably go cheap as well

that one is a little too much for me. if it was a maple bodied one then it would be worth it to me, but i am not a big fan of the alder bodied ones.
I hadn't played my Pilot in a while---I had been working on a project J-bass and played that mostly for the last few months. Well, a couple days ago I pulled out the Pilot. I had forgotten what an amazing bass it is! My upgraded Jazz Bass can't touch it. I can't believe how resonant it is! Fixing up the Jazz was a great learning experience but I think it will be going on the block soon, and the Pilot will go back into regular use.

I want to join! here is my '86 Guild pilot 5, my Grande Dame, with my Alvarez and Thumb bass. I got it brand new back in '87. It's not completely stock because I added a EMG BTC control to the tone circuit. It has by far the most powerful output of any of my basses! I also have a DeArmond pilot 5.
Not to derail this thread TOO badly, but I remember seeing a review of the Brown's Guitar Factory fretted/less bass (you know the one where the upper fingerboard is fretless, but the lower octave has frets), and the review stated that it looks like a combo of a Pilot and another bass...has anybody seen one in person? I'd like to give one a try, but I can't find one local...anybody ever try one?

I refinished it and reshaped the headstock a little.That's all.It is the best sounding fretless I have ever played.I would never sell it.
