Guitar Center Used: Don't Buy Items

There is a Green Peavey Fury IV bass that they say is in "Great" condition. The electronics are wonky as the bass control doesn't work. The output, even with a fresh battery, is low. There is a bad ding in the back of the neck where it was dropped and a repair was attempted. Someone screwed with the battery box and tried to open it with a fork; the finish is stripped around it to a great degree. It is literally bare wood around the cover. The battery box is empty save a napkin that is used to prevent the battery from bouncing around. It is literally a hunk of junk that is in "Great" condition.

Not necessarily a stay away, but some things to be aware.
Neck has a good bow, setup may fix, but until you play with the truss rod, who knows.
Needs new strings. On the dead side
Through an amp, the E string was much louder than the others. Not sure if changing strings would fix or there is something else up.
The new one they had there was much better for sure.

Do not waste your time purchasing this Sandberg. It is an Electra VS4, not a (California) VM4. In great condition and sounded great, but overpriced for a used VS4, especially with no case.

I purchased this cab from another GC and returned it locally. It makes a god awful buzzing sound on the E. Tried 3 basses, handles a B like a champ. Play an E either open or fretted, just a terrible sound.
The best way I can describe it is if a string pops off the nut. That sound.

Took a gamble on an EBMM at 699 and its a full on fake. I'm returning it today, so it'll probably pop back up immediately. Here'e their item description -

I used to work at a GC a long time ago and I had seen some skyline Laklands brought in that were altered to look like US ones, but I've never seen a fake Stingray. That was before the Sterling SUB line was out, so maybe it's easy to do. It looked legit from the small photo, at least! Anyway, don't be fooled!

I see the Detroit store already listed it without mentioning this.
Also this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] - Neck has a twist, significant forward bow as well, among other things. Far from Ex cond...

I've been in the market for a 6-String Carvin Bunny Brunel with Piezo when this popped up In the price reduced section. Unfortunately, it's impossible to set up as the fingerboard is high and buzzes very badly in the higher frets. Too bad. The search continues.

This isn't a don't buy, but a beware and ask questions: The US Masters Guitar Works EP5 that is at Allen Park, MI is a fretless. Listing does not state this. Has some strange switching, but information on all of that is in the case. The pots may need to be changed as they are sticky and don't turn well, and when I got it, and returned it, the lock was broken off of the back of the "G" Hipshot tuner. Otherwise, neck is great and it is a super bass! BTW, this is a USA made US Masters, and appears to be custom made for someone, as "Dazz" is on the headstock.

This Musicman Stingray SLO's neck is toast. Like new condition otherwise but FAR from "excellent".

Someone's been tinkering with this $429 Mustang PJ. The volume and tone pots are reversed (V is where T should be, and vice versa), and the volume knob is so loose it felt like it could fall off.
Also, the neck is bowed and the strings are a mile high. Probably not a big deal, but I can't say what shape the truss is in.

I bought this Nemesis NA-650 from a GC in South Carolina. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] The photos shown were of the amp before it was shipped to me...
It arrived in a box barely big enough for the amp itself, much less with any kind of padding around it. As I slid it out of the box, I noticed one of the knob caps on resting on the bottom of the amp. The Edge control was completely snapped off (knob still attached to the pot shaft in the bottom of the box), the gain control for the semi-parametric EQ section smooshed over. Most of the knob caps fell off and were also in the bottom of the box.
I called the toll-free number and explained the situation. Seth was gracious, apologized and suggested that I just return it to my local store. He credited the cost of shipping so that wouldn't be an issue. The guy at my local store was cool too. He also apologized and promptly refunded the price of the amp and sales tax. He did say that they'd send it back to SC so that they can take care of it! I'm assuming that it's in the system only for the purpose of transfer back to SC...
The shipping container wasn't damaged, so I'm wondering if the shipping person in SC accidentally dropped the amp (inflicting previously described damage) only to try to cover it up by packing it poorly and shipping it to me.

This one seems like a decent deal on first glimpse. But it has cracks on both sides of the neck up by the nut - pretty sure they were sustained when it was shipped to me.
I purchased online from the GC in Algonquin, and they shipped it in a box loosely wrapped in an actual garbage bag (that still smelled like the trash can it probably came out of). It arrived with a pretty threaded box, and when it showed up the neck cracks as described. I returned it to the Springfield store, and apparently they just put it back up for the same price.
You might be able to negotiate a discount if you point out the issue. I'm usually ok fixing things like this, but I couldn't get the garbage bag smell out of my head.
