Guitar Center Used: Don't Buy Items

I bought a "new" Big Al SSS from Guitar Center (Shipped from Atlanta) and returned it to the Carle Place GC. They put it back on the rack as new for $2200. I think I paid $1280 for it. This was over a year ago and it's still there. Kinda kicking myself for not keeping it now.

Every used guitar or bass I ever purchased at GC was promptly returned because of of some major underlying issues. For example...bent truss rods, bowed necks, cracks, faulty electronics...there is no QC at GC ... STAY AWAY !

Looks like I might've grabbed some of your luck away from you.

Fodera 1992 Anthony Jackson Contrabass
MTD 635 (first year)
1978 Fender Jazz
Two Surine five strings
Pavel MacAbee six
ISI Bass-O-Matic cab
SWR Amplite
Boss GT-10B
Two Markbass NY604 cabs
Jack Read four string

and more. I got all of these, in nice condition, ridiculously below market value.

Another TBer found it and told me about it. $2500. Pretty unbelievable deal. Still have it.

The first used high end bass I found at GC was local. A Surine Protocol 7 string for $1,000. Worth at least triple that used. Hard to believe I've found three Surines at GCs.

There was a Fodera NYC Empire on there last I looked. At $1,999 it's an okay deal IMO. They don't have it listed as a Fodera. When I found my Pavel it wasn't listed by brand name either... but I recognized it.

Yeah it makes me think that I should start searching for just "dera" and see what comes up, spelling isn't their strong point

I always look out for Cherry Hill since they sold me a 700RB a couple years ago and it went up in a puff of smoke taking out my Schroeder speaker, they got it back, said it reeked of smoke and then put it back up for sale. I use a test speaker with any amp from GC now....expensive lesson, they will not replace anything that their products damage.
