Follow up to earlier post. I left a message for a store in North Carolina regarding a used item , and did get a call back a few hours later from a national help desk several states away .

Did not get a discount but was able to get the product and a few freebies and 3-5 day shipping to my home in Phoenix.The return policy is indeed 180 days now and was confirmed.

No discounts. Even if it’s been 90 days. I tried at a guitar center Hollywood after being on the sales floor since mid August, went back early January to see it still hanging but with a bit of abuse judging from the body. Manager still wouldn’t budge a discount. Oh well

because of their location, they're more frequented and have a particular curated used selection. the stuff that would likely be discounted probably goes to other locations so they can keep their inventory distinctive. generally.

GC is pretty rigid on price. The most useful thing I learned in business school is that profit is maximized when marginal revenue is equal to marginal cost. That means, if you can sell something for a penny more than you paid, you are good. You have generated revenue and reduced inventory without losing money. Small businesses, and certain large businesses, have a hard time understanding this.

My buddy who does set up, sales, and teaches at GC says he can't get a discount on used gear.

I think it depends largely on how confident they are in the listed price. If they have lots of comps, they’ll stick with it. But i once asked about a bass that was pretty beat up, and the manager said, “Yeah, this might not sell at this price. Come back in a few weeks.” And one time I sold some drum cymbals and was honestly overpaid for them by a new guy. I am sure they ended up having to knock down the price to resell them.

Update from earlier post #4242. I ordered a used bass and to fill the order and box and shoptook a week and ups ground another week.
From N Carolina to Phoenix .
Emailed with store manager even though store was closed .
So used gear online still available.

GC I’m Atl has a used Xotic ProVintage for sale for $1799. Sometimes I feel sorry for employees that don’t do research. It is definitely a ProVintage model which sold new for $1300 and were clearanced out by Xotic for $990.

i forgot to post here guitar center has a carvin LB76, all black, older non-rounded body sides model, for under $500

came to like $530 i think after taxes.

a steal for an excellent 6 string jazz bass.

It has extra Gs on it. Not to worry though as it appears to have been sold.

Alright I am no longer ordering online from GC used. I've got some great gear over the years but my luck seems to have run out. 3 orders in a row 'excellent condition' that were fit to be stripped for parts.
