GUITAR OVERDRIVE ON BASS ?

I used for years the Boss BD2 blues driver (settings : low gain and low tone ), and I'm pretty happy except to low frequency cut problem, I have to boost it on my amp EQ. I can have an overdrived sound that can cut through the mix.
For a more fuzzy and fat sound I use the russian big muff (I tried the US version but the sound was too garbled).

I planned to buy the ODB3, thinking I could avoid the low cut problem but I read some very bad reviews so...

do you have any problems when you performed outdoor with huge stage & crowds when using BD-2?

no problem for me and no problem for the sound engineer, with di box and/or mic.
but I did not use a lot clear sound (without the BD2) so I think the guy boosted the low freqs and voila... now If if disable/enable more often the BD2 effect it may create some problems.

I know a bassplayer with amazing sound, but he plays on 2 amps, a bass amp with clear sound and a little cheapy guitar amp with overdrived sound. the sound is great, but I would like to find a effect pedal that could do (a little) the same sound...

thanx for the tips, about not switching the pedal on and off often (in live performance,with potentially low cut od pedal) it never crossed my mind.

bout an overDrive pedal that sounded really great (like separated channel, Clean + Drive), I would like that one too....

instead of switching on/off the pedal, I prefer to adapt the gain/level settings to each song. with 0 gain, the sound of the BD2 is nice too (not far away from the clear sound, with less low freqs)

it sounded like, you uses BD-2 as a kind of booster.

gain: min
so I guess the Level knob is all the way up (max position)
tone: low position

question: what happens when the tone knob set to 12 o'clock or max position ?

Tone circuit is passive on the BD-2 - so only cuts. Raised the freq on the bass cut so less bass is cut as you turn the tone knob up and vise versa for the high cut section. Q is the range of freq adjusted by the control - rather than which frequency. Will post all the changes and some clips once I am happy with the pedal - which is pretty close now.

PS: If I remember correct - it was the removal of the low pass filter cap (C17) on the BD-2 really helped retain some of the lows even with gain at 0.

I always get the wrong idea about Q, until now....

does every overdrive pedal have low pass filter ?

do you know Boss-Fender '59 Bassman FBM-1 Legend Series Pedal ? is this an OD pedal ?

??? Only really looked at the BD-2. This part of the circuit (C17, C19, R26) in the BD-2 seems odd. The low pass looks to pass the lows, the high pass shunts the highs to ground.

Yes - but voiced for guitar. Am guessing this is not an anoalog as haven't seen any mods yet. Also expensive. Still recommend the 'Badder' Monkey as a place to start.

yeah, the SABDDI. The others are EHX Micro Pog, Barber Trifecta, Reverend Drivetrain, Boss CE-5, Boss TU-2, none of which are pushed as a pedal for bass, all of which work great.

I used to use it on my board, it sort of sat in between an overdrive sound and an aggressive fuzz sound. Nowadays I split the difference by using the Drivetrain and Trifecta, but I'd definitely use the DOD in a pinch.

if I set the gain to 12 hour, the sound is more fuzzy (like the big muff but less fat) even if I play not too strong.

with tone to 0 I still have enough medium and high for string attack (I have an active MM stringray), but with tone to 12 or more there is not enough bass

is it difficult to modify the circuit ?

not enough bass? so the tone cuts the bass as you turned it higher. does it?

After 12 on the tone the bass starts to get cut, which is bad since it is already toooo lean already. As long as yo are experieced with the solder gun and can work on board mounted compenents - it isn't hard. Here is the final list of what I have and think it is finished:

found a BD2 keeley custom on eBay, I'll tell you more if I catch it !

the main reason I started to use this effect is because my amp (an older SVT II) has no gain+volume, but only volume so I can't have overdrived sound, or at high volume which is too much on this amp, and I definitely like the BD2 sound. I also put the BD2 after the bigmuff to boost up some freqs.

I also had DS-2 but I didn't like it with the bass.

I wonder why boss does not make some BD2 evolutions with these popular mods ?

do they made BOSS SD-1 modded for bass... i kinda like the sound of it, never tried BD-2 on bass, will try it soon.
