Other than body style, is there any other major differences between the two MK Sojourns. I looked and didn't really see anything.
I can't say for sure. Not sure if the electronics were upgraded. But, IMHO, both were great builds, and the latest is beautiful. Pound for pound, I found the MKs to be the best of this bunch, for what I wanted.
They do take the LaBella flatwound MBLS strings made for Gold Tone. I have them on mine (and on another bass). They intonate as well as the stock strings. They are not always available, but if you get on Gold Tone's "notify" list, they will contact you when they come into stock. The last set I bought took about 6 months.
I'd meant to post about these. I'm not sure they'd been mentioned in the thread before your post. Traveler Guitar Redlands Concert Bass and Redlands Mini Bass:

They mount the usual D'Addario EXPPBB190GS synthetic-core, coated phosphor bronze -wound 037, 055, 062, 090 strings.
That would be why to buy mk for me. Although i like the arched back of the gold tone. It is the most comfortable acoustic guitar i have played for the money

I notice the LaBella MBLS flats are not recommended for the fretted version of the Gold Tone Micro bass. I think I asked the question why a couple years ago, and best I recall, the issue is intonation. I was wondering if anyone has tried them on a GT micro fretted by accident or on purpose, and if the intonation is really that bad.
I don't have a fretted Gold Tone 25" scale MicroBass, but I do have a set of the MBLS strings on a 25" scale fretless MicroBass.
On that bass, you can't use the "fretlines". You must intonate by ear.
I believe they work better on the MK Sojourns because their stock strings are steel core.
Yes, I think somewhere back through this thread there is a post explaining that Gold Tone will set up a 23 or 25” scale micro bass to work with the LaBella flats if you send your MB to them. Seems there was a cost. I didn’t check with GT to confirm.
I have a 23” scale (but would love to have a 25), and I’m using LaBella Silverbacks with good results. The intonation is not perfect as can be achieved with a slab body electric bass & adjustable bridge, but it’s only off a cent or two here and there. Intonation is actually better with the Silverbacks than it was with the Thunderstickies that came on the bass.
I thought about trying the flats just to see how they are, but they are a little too expensive for experimenting if they don’t work out.
The ash color is better, I would have liked to see one in mahogany.
Maybe if enough people contact them they might consider it for next year’s run. They’re not part of FMIC anymore so they might be more open to suggestions. One can only hope.

I misbehaved today
and ordered a Redlands Mini Bass to check out. Should be here in a few days. I saw the pinless bridge and that very nice looking slim body, and I had to give it a drive.
I just ordered a Traveler Redlands Mini Bass spruce top from Sweetwater for $274 shipped, to replace my Gold Tone 23" GT MicroBass acoustic that I'm finding a little too big for me (12.75" wide, 35.25 long). I was thinking of getting the mahogany top, but because I have an acoustic walnut that's very close in color, I decided to get the spruce, also if I want Pat Wilkins to change the color, it might be easier on the natural spruce. The Traveler is 22.1" scale, 12" wide, 33.5" long. I'm going to use Galli 23" scale flat wound steel with nylon core. Will also add a preamp/tuner and pickup I already have.

Well. Mine already touched down. Sweetwater is great that way. They shipped it within hours of the order.
So, first impressions. It Looks like a good build. Extremely comfortable small body. Much, much smaller body than, say, the MK.
I won't be able to evaluate it much further without coming up with an amplification option. Not sure what they were thinking with no electronics, not even the simplest passive under saddle. It has typical ABG volume - enough to hear yourself, but, not enough to play with others.
I overall like it, and I really like the compact design, but, I need electronics. I guess I am going to climb down that rabbit hole.

Anybody using the LaBella CB40s on an Ibanez (I have an AVNB1E)? I'm wondering if there's enough difference between those and the stock D'Addarios to warrant replacing the perfectly good original set with the contrabass strings?
