Halfway through 2025. How's your GAS?

Bought the Ampeg BA 110 yesterday afternoon and played it two hours in a row last night.
What a great little combo with muscle and a just good enough tone when the EQ is tweaked a bit.
The one I got is like brand new, it’s been used 8 hours in a studio and never been out.
Should stop my GAS for a few months……………..…….or a few weeks !

Fujifilm X30, remarkably now more expensive than when it was discontinued as people are getting the itch for real cameras instead of cellphone pics the way they're walking away from downloads to LP's.
Fujifilm X100S, as much X100 as I can afford right now
Fairly rare X-S1, their foray into a 'superzoom' camera, fixed 24-400mm zoom
My dad was a wedding photographer and I grew up around cameras and B+W darkrooms and Kodachromes (later VELVIA ! !). I discovered the Fuji digitals and was instantly sucked in by the old school, metal ergonomics with dials and switches. It takes me completely away from music, not a bad thing at all: JW could be an obsessive dullard when I slept and ate bass most of my life. Their design language reminds me so much of the Canons and Minoltas and Nikons I grew up with.

Nice. I've been down the camera trail before. That can be a pricey habit too. I got into automatic wristwatches last year. That may be another reason for my lack of bass-GAS... lol.

My wife has long dreamed of a kitchen remodel, and demo is gonna start in a few weeks. The cost is astronomical, like as much discretionary money as we could possibly save in 5+ years. It's a stretch for us.
So in January I decided this would be my Year of No Gear. It'll come back around in my favor, eventually. The rest of our lives , she'll never be able to say that something I want is too expensive.
But that damn new MXR Synth won't get itself out of my mind.

My GAS was dead since 2022.. But it came back to life this year due to right shoulder pain. I've had to find another solution than my actual basses to be able to play confortably without pain when seated at home. And this wondeful shorty arrived:

I couldn't be more happier. This bass is the better bang for buck i never had. I can now play during hours without pain. Sound and comfort are excellent.

In fact, I’m looking for any kind of downside for this TT 800 amp and didn’t find anything yet. I can still live with my Mesa Subway D350 so far but if ever I need more power and/or tone, this TT 800 wins.

My holding out for the right Gibson Ripper is probably the only thing keeping it relatively tame, as it’s been hard seeing various other basses I like pop up while I’m hunting!

I'm not a fan of heavy effects on bass. But I saw Ian Allison's breakdown of that pedal on IG and am a little obsessed with it. (and we have a ridiculously expensive master bathroom overhaul on the horizon, so I can definitely relate)
I've GASSED hard for a few things, but have managed to only get 1 bass since September of 2022, so I guess I'm going well enough.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit that... I gave in a week or so ago, and... ordered another bass...
I've gone through most of my life without really having GAS; at least not like most people seem to have it. 30-some years ago, I made a list of basses that I wanted, and... spent the next 3 decades finding and buying them. Since I'm a lefty, some of them were... hard... to find. To fill particular spots in my "herd", I actually had to have 3 of them made. Along the way, there were 3 or 4 basses that I sold and replaced with something better, but out of the 31 basses I've bought? I still have 27 of them. Since I took delivery of a '24 Birdsong Fusion lined fretless bass last Spring? That was the culmination of my "Herd". Every spot was now filled. My bass buying days were, at long last, finally, officially, over...
Yeah, right. As I said, I don't really have GAS. What I do have, is a sporadic need to just... buy something! Yeah, it could be a bass; or a guitar; it just has to be... something. I satisfied the urge, many years ago, by convincing myself that I really, really needed a long scale, 5-string banjo. Try finding a left handed one, sometime. Mine is a very rare, very collectable '63 Style 3, Model 3 ODE. And, yes, I occasionally do try to play it... When this urge comes over me, I've bought motorcycles; collectable knives (I have a lot of those); and way more guns that a reasonable person needs...
Anyway, when the urge struck me this time? I convinced myself that I really needed a new short scale bass. The last two that I bought - to fill "herd" spots - were that Birdsong Fusion, and a Serek Sacramento. So... went to the Serek site first. I configured a couple, but... nah. So, over to Birdsong. And... Surprise! They've come out with a few new models, and... one of them is a two pickup Fusion. That, I just had to have. So I gave Scott Beckwith a call...
My lefty Fusion 2, with a Spalted Texas Pecan body/headstock overlay; Pau Ferro fretboard; and black hardware, is serial #1135, and will join the builds-in-progress page in the next week or so. I've already seen the rough body blank; it will be... sweet... when it's done. And just as a bonus? This is their 21st anniversary, and... they're having a sale!. So, I'm satisfying my "Buy Something" urge; I'm getting a super nice bass; and I'm saving some not-inconsequential $$'s, too...

I've been rebuilding my guitar collection (not a collector, but I always have different guitars for different sounds, and had my arsenal decimated by a fire), and the last purchase was an Inspired By Gibson Epiphone ES-335. It's a great guitar. Pretty much covered now, but I do feel a Telecaster guitar, and Precision bass may start calling to me soon (I have a Jazz, and a Jaguar PJ). I throw $50 in a jar every month for this, so the pace is slow.

I've been mostly buying... drum sticks. I started playing drums this year and bought an Alesis Express mesh kit in November. Keeping the pedals from sliding and the cymbal stands from inching down has been an adventure. I also just got a cheap portable CD player because I got tired of the shenanigans by various music apps. Sometimes I can't believe that once I get going, six hours have passed. I'll play along maybe to an album, then a concert, and some favorites. Is it just jamming or am I practicing? Opinions may differ. For the first time, I'm able to play along with reggae songs. Eight notes and sometimes triplets on the bass drum are happening more easily. Naturally, there are about a million YouTubers who are better than me.
I love maple sticks because they weigh nothing but for durability, I'm using Promark Forward 747 FireGrain hickory sticks now.
