I agree. I don't like broccolli, but after 30-something years of occasionally trying it and failing to like it, I'm still optimistic that at some point I may. This would be true of certain musics and genres as well.

I agree. I don't like broccolli, but after 30-something years of occasionally trying it and failing to like it, I'm still optimistic that at some point I may. This would be true of certain musics and genres as well.
not trying to hikack a thing. just stating my opinion, and trying to inject a little humor at the same time. although, it seems more folks are starting to agree with me. you're really too taken with this whole thing, and maybe with yourself. this is an open internet forum, and as such, you should be prepared to hear opinions differing from your own. gotta admit it though, watching you have a hissy fit is entertaining on an otherwise boring work day. have a nice thanksgiving.
I am definitely a hip-hop convert. The big reason I started listening to and enjoying hip-hop is the production. A few years back I started to really get into the production side of music. There's really not another genre of music where the producer has more input and influence over the sound.
Producers are also just starting to get recognition for producing great songs and great albums. People are now buying albums just because of who produced it, not because they like previous work the group has done. I think this is a new step for music and an important one. Hip-hop has paved the way for producers to put their flavor on a track and get recognized for it.

The public being harsh on him definitely was overkill and overall very ignorant. Like I said, Kanye West has always been like that, and for people to get all up in arms makes me wonder whether people know what they are buying or if they are just mindless zombies most of the time.
The irony of it is that it didn't hurt his career at all. In fact, it made him even more popular since he bagged several interviews afterward where he could "apologize" in public. Any publicity is good publicity. People will still continue to buy his music, and top 40 stations will still continue to play his stuff.
And I'm sorry, but I forgot to state that the "glad you like hip-hop" comment was directed at the original poster.
Hip hop? Sure. My all time favorite album is the album where Linkin Park and Jay Z collaborated.

Maybe why there's SO MANY of them. I mean dang.. The hits are slowly becoming nothing but one line repeated mulitple times a whole song. The instrumentals are already one riff an entire song in every time. Most of them have ONE instrument - drums. Sometimes with some bass. Oh, that is, if you're not counting all the sound effects.
Me, personally, no! But I do enjoy a FEW songs.
And they do make great party songs! Can't deny that.

he is really just pure "rap." not the mainstream hiphop you hear everywhere you go. Rap is more of just for fun and expression, rather than popularity, I have noticed.
I am a huge hiphop fan. True hiphop, not Hop Pop.

I hate the hip hop that gets radio play. I do however love more underground stuff like MF Doom, Talib Kweli etc. Old stuff too like Digable Planets. That's real stuff though. Not the crap on tv. It's all about lyrical content for me. Gotta be decent. Digable Planets are sweet, a lot of their stuff is jazz hip hop

And might I also add, that if I have to start moderating "tone", I will most certainly err on the side of caution.

To answer the question you posed in the title of this thread, NO, I HAVE ALWAYS HATED HIP-HOP and that will in all probability never change. My listening tastes are expansive from classical to folk to jazz to celtic to new age to rock to (all-be-it limited) country to metal. NO rap and no hip-hop.

True... The genre as a whole did not break REALLY big until nu (sp?) metal got huge.
