Has anyone hated Hip Hop then eventually liked it?

It's funny how I once hated this style of music, now I'm producing it. I started messing around with it using my Roland MV-8800 and Native Instruments software. It seems quite easy to come up with lyrics and music so why not record and publish a CD?

I've always been into hard rock and metal, and have always had a hard time finding the right members. I'll stick to that but being that I have all the tools, and my own studio I can do Hip Hop by myself and record/produce my own CD's.

I also live in an area with a really crappy market for original metal and rock so gigs are few and far between. Being that dance music is very popular I'm going to experiment with this new project and see what I can do with it.

I may have found a new calling here that's easy to write, record and hopefully market. I'm almost 47 years old so I might as well try something new when everything else seems to be at the end of a very long tunnel.

Lesson learned = don't hate.

also, don't burn bridges - you might feel differently later?

...I've got a UNIQUE idea - you could try blending elements of hip hop and heavy metal and try to capture a brand new audience that's never imagined that the two could be combined!

the other way round for me..
I use to like it somewhat...then after working 100's of shows, I can't stand it.. well at least most of it. There are some artists out there but I see way more bull**** than anything resembling music. Now I can only see it as some sort of social experiment gone bad or something...I reminds me of watching those old WWII films with the crowd swaying to the leaders words.....put your hand in the air and make some motherF****** NOIZE

No - they go together pretty good actually. Just don't ever let anybody credit Limp Bizkit or any other "johnny come lately" act for mixing metal and rap - anthrax was all over this in the early 80's - and so were the Beasty Boys with the dude from Slayer playing raging guitar parts on their License to Ill album also in the early 80's

Obviously I was kidding about rap/metal hybrid being new or unique - but it is a legit little niche and can be a lot of fun. If you like the music you are making, rock it man!

you should cover Anthrax, I'm the Man ('84 version - none of that I'm the Man '91 crap)

I'll consider some select covers but I generally don't do covers. That's why I'm not out there playing Tom Petty,311 and Maroon 5 just to make a few bucks, I just can't bring myself to do it.

Some hate Hip Hop, and some hate cover music :p Don't get me wrong, I listen to quite a bit of it, I just have no interest in gigging it. I'm The Man is a cool tune.

I wasn't a big fan of it until I found a random Aesop Rock song on my computer that I think I inherited from an ex-roommate. After getting all of his stuff I started getting into other good hip hop like Jedi mind Trick. Now I also like the more popular stuff like Common and Kayne (Kayne is still an ass through).

I'm just not a rap kind of guy, and I know there are elements of rap in hip-hop. The music behind that rap or hip-hop, whether it be traces of electronica, rock, metal, a 4-bar phrase, or something longer, I'm ok with, although not "in love" with.

Stylistically, it's just not my thing as a listener, and I dare say would be my thing as a player, either. I hear enough of it in various places, and in passing, and even on occassional focused listening that informs my opinion. I've though it might click with me at some point, but it hasn't. And neither has Stockhausen, but hey, there's always tomorrow, right?

But to each their own. Kudos to you, man.

I'm not a hip hop fan or a Kanye fan, but I think the public is being way too harsh with Kanye West. I realize I am in an extreme minority on this. He made a terrible mistake, but I just feel the punishment is greater than the crime. :hiding:

How is this unique to a hip hop show?

Ever been to see a rock band and the audience consists of a bunch of guys flipping their long hair around and holding up their hands with the index finger and pinky extended? Then, between every song, the guy with the microphone shrieks "Let's hear you make some NOISE!" and they all scream and wave said index/pinky gestures?
