Has Gretsch been lying to us for over a decade?

Just to pile on, I too would like to somehow see 100% proof that there isn't any hidden coil anywhere, as I'm not sure that's been fully ruled out yet - as truly unlikely as it seems. For sheer curiosity more than anything.

With that being said, the fact that the things don't actually buck any hum is fairly decent evidence in and of itself. I feel like that aspect might actually be getting lost a little here.

I just read the whole Gretsch forum thread. Talk about snide character assassination attempts without being able to actually refute any of it is really sad.
Advertised as a HB, hums like a SC and no evidence even with it deconstructed physically that it's any type of HB. Looks like a SC to me.

Some of us just want to know for certain for ourselves. As I noted, the fact that they're noisy is evidence in itself that no matter how they're constructed (even if they did have two coils) that it's not working as advertised.

or you dont understand. There is 0 evidence pointing to these pickups actually being humbuckers. There is plenty of evidence it's a single coil.

i'm convinced every single owner has 2 of these basses and deceptively put the 2 bridge pickups together for a photo and refuses to unwind them to reveal the secret magic dual coil . really sad how so many people would go to such lengths to try to give fender a bad name

I hypothesize that a sidewinder would appear different under the paper. Anyone have a sidewinder handy?

I have two sets from different makers with very different build characteristics. I was just at a luthier friend's place on Saturday and probably could've snagged some magnetic paper, although he just had a big fire recently and it might not look so good.

The idea of splicing coil ends in the middle of the wraps or anywhere out of sight once the pickup is opened up doesn't jibe with anything I've ever seen, can anyone post a commercial example of that please? Seems all the more unilkely in a low-ish end product, no?

If I were the Gretsch family or whomever runs the company these days, I'd be p'd off as it simply looks bad.

But the G forum thread is really a case of "who ya gonna believer, me or your lyin' eyes?"
