Has Gretsch been lying to us for over a decade?

even suggesting or implying is ridiculous. do you go up to your wife and tell her "it's POSSIBLE you had sex with the neighbor while i was at work" ? well...you might actually do that. but most wouldn't because it's rude and baseless.

people here have provided much evidence that this is not a humbucker..but you're endlessly trying to come up with some magically unlikely scenario where it's POSSIBLE due to some ridiculously never before seen or used technology in a budget instrument that Fender decided not to advertise or market.

occam's razor dude

@skycruiser

I tagged you and reposted this so you could read it again.

Another fine example of hyperbole. Now we are saying it a ridiculous, magical, quantum leap in technology to put a wiring connection inside a pickup assembly instead of outside. OK. For all we know, there might be a cheaper, easier way to assembly it with an internal connection. Maybe it is cheaper and less reliable, so that's why it's usually done on the outside? Maybe the cheapest, laziest way to assemble it is to put the connection on the inside?

All I have done is suggest one simple aspect of the design that could be fairly easily checked to confirm that something strange wasn't done in the way they assembled the pickup, should be checked and confirmed. This is up against posting publicly that a multi-million dollar company has committed fraud and lied to customers for a decade. I don't care either way what Fender or Gretsch did. I don't own one of these instruments. This is just a discussion.

Where has this ever been done before? You're saying Fender is the first and only one to do this ? (for over a decade now in secret?) Please, everyone is waiting. The burden of proof is on you, not others to disassemble their bass to appease your fantasy.

It's just a discussion for you because you dont have any skin in the game. It's my only working bass on a limited budget and I've fought noise for a year. I prodded some modders to open it up and we found a single coil. Lobster found it shortly after and started this thread.

So if you want to post nonsense, get some skin in the game. You're in TX, come buy my bass for $300. I'll throw in the hard case. If you do that, I'll never post on this thread again.

Once you own it, you can take apart the pickups and find out I am right, and it's a single coil.

So go ahead. Put up $$ behind your mouth. Or stop suggesting nonsense.

I did not say they have done this. Please read and comprehend more carefully.

Lobster already disassembled the pickup. He just did not take the final step to unwind the pickup.

why does he need to? your suggestion HAS NEVER BEEN USED. Why does anyone need to unwrap it for some unusable idea you had?

Again, buy my bass or stop posting nonsense.
but....but...but..but..it's POSSIBLE

after lobster proves a 3rd time that it's still single coil i'm sure skycruiser will just move the goalposts again .. "but it's POSSIBLE that lobster used a dummy/stand in pickup for the video and not an actual pickup from the gretsch!!!"

Considering how cheaply actual mini-humbuckers could be manufactured--or they could simply repurpose the coils from a guitar mini-humbucker under the same plain metal enclosure--it's pretty sad that Gretsch/Fender would purposefully choose to mislead consumers, which is exactly what they're doing.

There's no way for them to PR or use comms strategy to get out of this mess. They've got to make it right by offering the correct pickups to current owners and/or a rebate for anyone that buys one with the current, clearly single coil pickups.

I thought about getting one of these basses in shell pink. Now that I know it'll be noisy, I'll wait to find a cheap used one so I can swap the pickups out.

My suggestions have been consistent throughout this thread. Honestly I think it is most likely they are single coil pickups and that it is not likely that they used a special technique to assemble them. I'm an engineer and tend to think about verification in a special way. To me it is a nagging hole in the case against Gretsch that this was not checked, and all I have said, consistently, is that this fairly simple thing should be confirmed, if anything, for completeness. Imagine the embarrassment if it turns out they did internally wire the coils. That's the only point I have made here, and it has been taken with a belligerence that I didn't expect.

Didn't Lobster say he would consider having the XRay analysis done? Isn't the purpose of that to check for this exact thing, some type of unusual internal assembly process? This isn't an outlandish suggestion.

Jeez, the way I'm seeing it is that @skycruiser never discounted the work others had done, and that the pickups could very well be single coil. To be 100% sure though, you'd need to unwind the pickup and until then what's the harm in a little caution.

Is it unlikely and implausible, sure. Do we know for absolute certain? No. Feels like early adopters pooping on everyone else, or like a weird negative reality of the Gretsch forum

If you're an engineer, then you know that no matter how good your idea is, if it is too expensive, it wont happen. If the idea is a bad idea, but makes the company profit, well then that's the ticket.

Think clearly and stop playing what if's. The coil within a coil is ridiculous - AND WHY WOULD THEY USE AN ADVANCED TECH THAT DOESN'T WORK??

Why add cost when a fat single coil will sound the same and be just as noisy as what you are suggesting at half the cost?

Again buy my bass if you are that adamant. I'll quit posting as I wont have skin in the game. Buy it and soothe your curiosity.

The only reality is that it's a single coil, and those of us who own it, are tired of the fender defenders coming in this thread just to say "what if" and "proove it" when we already have.

It's a single coil.

as I understand it, you aren't actually saying @skycruiser is incorrect, just that they should stop asking questions because we've reached a reasonable level of evidence.

I don't think calling people "fender defenders" is helpful or accurate.

Sounds like you want your frustrations to be heard and validated, and you don't feel like they have been.

'Just asking questions' can be its own form of disingenuousness. Not saying that's what's going on here, but it does seem like useless pot-stirring at this point.

we have reached a reasonable level of evidence. We're 100% sure it's a single coil. That is reasonable.

What isnt reasonable is to continue to create nonsense just to defend fender. The point @Snert made early on about it possibly being a stacked humbucker was an uncomfortable one, but legitimate. That's why Lobster tore his apart, and made returning the bass impossible.

This coil within a coil thing is hot garbage nonsense. And again, I urge anyone who is still curious to come to Texas, buy my bass, and you can figure it out.
