The really annoying part about all this is, Fender/Gretsch is reading every post on this forum and still they remain mute.

An unprovable hypothesis. You may be right, but good luck with marshaling evidence to prove it.
Unprovable, yes, but as this is the largest bass forum, I'll bet their social media people do watch and search for key words just as most large companies do on other SM. Whether they think it's important or not is another story.
This seems plausible, but if they are keyword searching "Gretsch" on TalkBass, they've got a long row to hoe.
^^ Maybe. I post whilst working on the computer doing other things and I don't find it hard to cover most of the Bass forums in a few minutes to see if there's anything of interest to me. Do that a couple of times a day and make some notes, and it wouldn't consume a lot of time.

A mistake or purposeful misrepresentation, there has been ample time for Fender/Gretsch to respond to the bass community.
That they have not done so, leads me to believe they're trying their best to come up with a plausible explanation that will basically amount to bs.

It may be the largest but this is a tiny tiny tiny portion of the bass playing population. Most people here I think I fringe to be honest.

I believe if you found the Chinese manufacturers pickup manager and had them make a video unwinding and saying that it's a single coil, I can envisage the "lobster paid him off to avoid being proved wrong " comments. No matter how logical and fair we are, some folks just think the earth is flat.
Has anyone reached out to the dealer that they purchased the bass from or their closest warranty repair shop to see what they say?
Rondo used to sell a similar looking bass with very similar looking pickups. They were able to communicate that they were single coils.

When I was young, these two things were closely related. I'd drink some of the parent's scotch, then replace it with cold tea so the bottle looked just as full.
Yup. Both. The bass barely made any unwanted noise in the stores, but they checked the wiring anyway. Everything was fine. But at my house and in clubs, it was noisy. I've got nine other electric instruments in the house, and the only one that made a similar noise when plugged into the same amp, same outlet was my MIJ Jag when soloing one pickup.
But as I mentioned 100 pages ago, an hour and a roll of copper slug tape from the hardware store knocked the hum down by a *huge* margin.
Strangely, I ended up with this bass because a Squier 60's P I fancied in the store was really noisy. Maybe the Fender/Gretsch/Squier pickup supplier is using cheaper materials. Dunno.
I contacted my Sweetwater Sales Engineer and let him know what was going on with all of this. He said he would spread the word and try and contact Gretsch about the issue as well.
Also, you'll have no problem with excessive bullet penetration problems as long as you stay away from extreme bullet-inducing environments.
My Jerry Jones Longhorn never hums. Most of my Danelectros don't hum more than a tiny bit unless I stand beside a neon sign, which only happened once at a gig. The Jerry Jones pickups are RW/RP, which but stock Danos are not (or at least not on purpose). And there's no shielding at all Ina Danelectro cavity, except for a tiny bit of foil in the Jerry Jones.
In contrast, my jazz bass hums like an annoying jazz bass. I don't play it much, because it's heavy.
Construction, including coil geometry, can affect how much single-coils hum. They aren't all the same.
On the guitar side, I have a modern Supro guitar with reproductions of their vintage gold foils that are quiet enough that I forget that they're single-coils. A cheap set of GFS Dream 90s (~$30 ea., not presently in a guitar) may been even quieter.
OTOH, P-90s may be the noisiest type of single-coil commonly made, and dramatically noisier than the other two. In my experience, Strat and Tele pickups tend to fall between these extremes. Perceptually, in my environment and without careful comparison, the G2220 pickups seem a bit noisier than my Strat or Tele.
