Hate being told I don't look rock and roll!!!

You need to accessorize. Get some aviators, a chain for your neck and un-do the top button. I know what your thinking, and I agree, it is douche-y. However, you need to leave your reservations at the door if you want to look like a rockstar.

And those saying image doesn't matter are probably playing dive bars for under $100 a man. Just sayin'.

Might not be the answer you're looking for, but maybe it's not really your physical appearance, but how you stand and/or move on stage? Even if your face and dressing looks like that, if you strike classic rock poses and extrude an aura of pure dripping legend, your stage presence should be more than enough. At that point, if people tell you that you don't look rock enough, they're just jealous.

Damn, I thought for a second I was on a site that pays tribute to "The Housewives of Orange County", with all the fashion advice. Dress and act the way you want, and be yourself. But still, my advice is iron-clad. It's been proven and has worked for hordes of people for hundreds & hundreds of years. Seriously, just take up a martial art discipline. It'll give you confidence, self-esteem, and discipline out the yin-yang. Who couldn't use a little more discipline? Especially when it comes to practicing and playing. Not to mention that you'll get more respect. And, nobody will **** with you.

In my opinion, you could do one of two things. First off- Grow your hair out, jeans, plain t-shirts, aviators, maybe hit the weights and bulk up a little. OR! If you aren't comfortable with that, just keep wearing what you like. Who gives a damn, you know? Look, I know he isn't a bass player, but check out Josh Homme. This dudes oozes rock and roll even though he doesn't always "dress the part".

Personally, I am into jeans, band or plain black tees, and comfortable skate shoes. Don't let anyone tell you how to rock.

"Looking" rock and roll is rather silly (see 80s hairbands as examples of unchecked poser'ism). Playing rock is where it's at. It's the difference between looking tough and actually being tough....
Next time someone tells you that you don't look rock n roll, just ask them what they think rock n roll looks like, then tell them that their definition sounds like poser bull#%*t.
And btw, you look cool to me brody, keep doin what you do.

Congrats on beating your illness!

Honestly it doesn't matter what you wear/how you cut your hair/how many tattoos you have. I've seen bands with clean-cut guys wearing office shirts tear the roof off the place (the singer from The Bronx for one). Play and stick at it and have fun, and eventually you'll become the person, never mind look it.

no offense, but you asking how to look more rock n roll is itself not very rock n roll... perhaps such insecurities trigger the responses you get... what is a rock n roll look anyway? there is none... it's about attitude and being you... the rest is for posers (as is half the advise in this thread)..

the pinky issue does not help... i agree, you cannot control it directly, but it is linked to your mind... i had that issue, and it only went away after I got comfortable and relaxed... so, just get comfortable being on stage, being you, and playing some good music...

on the other hand, surviving brain tumor is pretty rock n roll to me!

The right answer is, "Thanks for turning out and being a great audience", the underlying subtext of which is, "Bugger off! Which one of us is onstage getting paid and who's in the crowd?".

Also, it's ALWAYS better to be judged as too young than too old.

After my hair had all fallen out it started to grow back all different, really thick and uncontrollable. I have so many scars on my head I couldn't shave it. Maybe I try and grow it long.

Find a Lemmy hat and/or a Black Sabbath or Rancid shirt. Fixed

No long term decisions like tattoos... youll be fine

Who the hell cares what you look like? Your look does not define you as a musician. Only you can do that with your playing and attitude. Rock and roll doesn't have to be some cliche look that makes you look like an asshat like 90% of the pros out there. Be proud of who you are and what you look like. Hater gonna hate. Let them. They are probably jealous of you anyway.

Have you ever seen Elvis Costello? He most definitely cultivates an image fitting of his musical style. Lee Sklar is a hired bass player who doesn't tour with rock and roll bands, so I fail to see the point of mentioning him.
