Hate the new SX headstock?

Well, if one does not like the new SX headstock, there is always Squier or Jay Turser. Sure one is likely to pay a little more for a new bass, but I'd bet used can be found for a lot nicer price. Though I must admit, there are not a lot of used Turser basses for sale that I have ever seen.

As to the headstock being ugly. The SX headstock reminds me of several others that people do not complain of. Older Peavey, Carvin, Johnson and on and on....

But to each his own....

Could you possibly photoshop a telecaster style headstock on there? And if possible do one showing the pointy headstock and the Tele style on one one to see what would need to go from the original?

Quick and dirty but I did one with a a tele headstock scaled and transparent on top of the SX and one with just the outline (rough, the tele pic and outline actually need to be a tad lower) that is easier to see. These are bad because I am using gimp which I am not used to.(I use Photoshop normally) I lined up the pics at the nut. It looks to me like the most you could do is an homage to a tele stock but not a full recreation.

The old one looks Fender-ish. The new one looks Carvin-ish. Which would you rather have it emulate, relative to the overall style (Fender) of the bass?

I didn't even notice when I ordered mine. A little bummed out about it, but I just got it to leave at a shared rehearsal space, so I could ride my motorcycle to rehearsals on nice days. Just a knockaround.. hope it works.

Wow! I getting the feeling that the resale value of SXs with the old headstock is going to start to skyrocket. You lucky guys are going to be able to get like $150 for those things now if you resell them.

The new SX headstock looks ugly in my opinion.

Life is too short to play a bass with an ugly headstock. It's like .......... with a nice body and ugly face. I guess if the lights are down low...hmm..... to some people it wouldn't matter, but it matters to me. The bottom line is (pun intended) that it's in the eye of the bass holder.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

There should be an, "I hate SX new Headstock" club. My only regret was the PJ (old stock) I got has a P neck to it. I am more of a jazz man myself so it is a little uncomfortable to play. I am waiting for them to bring back more options for bass. Now it's Jazz, P, or PJ with those horrible headstocks.

Prefer the old hs also, but got to tell ya ...

If it plays and sounds like my current SX it won't stop me from buying another.

My best sounding instrument is an old mistreated beat up Epi Texan acoustic. I couldn't give a crap what it looks like, it sounds awesome.

If you're hung up on looks, get a hairdo.

Yep, new headstock sucks however; as far as I'm concerned you still can't get anything else new that touches it for $100 or for that matter $500.

Squires? Seriously are people trying to compare Squires to SX's quality wise. I have yet to find a Squire in a showroom that didn't have the strings an inch off the neck. You are never going to make that right.

I would live with the ugly headstock over the rubber necked Squire any day.

Wig wouldn't look as good as the old HS.

Just my opinion, better they keep sounding fine and looking ugly than the other way around.

WOW So Essex reshaped the headstock and went form Fender-esque to Peavey-esque very peculiar hmmm. Very strange indeed. Looks like both my '89 & '91 Fury head-stocks ( bottom bass )
