Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

Hi guys!

So like me I saw many others had reasons they couldn't join, were you able to assemble a meeting last night?

I thought about trying to join with my phone and talking while driving home, but opted for safety instead. The large number of deer I saw on the way home made that a wise decision.

But we had a really good practice and feeling much less anxious going into this Sunday's gig. It'll be a first for our new lineup in front of real people. The venue is relatively new and has been doing gangbusters business so that's encouraging. I think once we get through those first couple numbers things will settle in.

I'll do my best to assemble a TB worthy gig report for your perusal!

Enjoy the day, it's Friday after all!

Hi Chris. I was glad to see my friends rehearsing, gigging, spending time with family, etc. I actually look forward to the day when we're all so busy it will take special planning to have a once-a-month Zoom GTG between our gigs and the rest of our lives and loves. There was a pretty good crowd of the usual suspect who showed up last night.

@dbase, the old country bass player, @ak56, @McG, @nixdad, and @1bassplayinfool showed up later. We had a nice visit.

So, I finally killed my iPhone 6 - meaning I finally got a new phone, so I was going through old pics and came across these two from way back when...

Hey Nate. If those guys ever learn to drive, you might be out of a job. :p

Good news for me:

Got a message from the keyboard player I work with in a cover band, looking for a bass player for some revival-type gigs. 8 over the next 5 weeks, each pays better than I normally get lol.

Cool! I'd be very happy with one or two gigs a week right now. But we're slowly getting back into it. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your musical adventures! :D

I am in absolutely no danger of being unemployed. All I can relate right now :)

The nice thing about getting a new phone is I’ll be able to shoot video - also the wife should be able to make a few of these.
Male/female country and rock tunes so it’ll be nice, kind of like coming home!

Hey! Fabulous! Looking forward to it! Tell the missus that we'd really appreciate it if she could be your camera-person. ;) Take care.

Thanks Chris!

Good zoom meeting last night, some surprise guests, always fun to chat with the members on here.

Thanks for lining these up Cliff!

It's always fun getting together with you guys, solving the world's problems, discussing beer, clothes, smokers, etc. I did not get a screenshot last night. I was enjoying myself so much I forgot. But thank you and @ak56, @McG, @Tony In Philly, and @dbase for sharing the evening.

Next week will probably be a Wednesday GTG too. I'll be driving to Las Vegas after work on Thursday. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend. God bless America.

I'll probably be able to make that. We're heading out Thursday for the cabin up north and a much needed week plus a couple days of vacation!

No screen shot? We all looked so lively and stage ready too :roflmao:

Hey Chris,

Sorry to miss the zoom meeting tonight, assuming it's still on, but heading out for the holiday weekend and a week off of work trumps out this time.

Have a great 4th gentlemen! And if you have a gig, make it a good one!

It was a good hang tonight, lots of deep conversations, sorry you missed it but I'm glad you're able to get out of the house and enjoy family and the great outdoors. :)

I think we talked @nixdad out of refinishing a soon-to-be-priceless bass that happens to have a lot of very cool autographs of famous bassists. @Holdsg gave us the inside scoop on what it's like to be fired from a band filled with egotistical musicians. @Kitsapbass filled us in on how hard it is to keep paint on things that stay in salt water all the time. @dbase told us that his band practices sound like sailors at a poker game, such language! They can't record anything because the conversation is X rated. @ak56 is looking forward to the biggest small-town fireworks show, probably the only one that's going to happen in the whole country. @McG reminded us that it doesn't have to be expensive to play great or sound good. @Tony In Philly and I enjoyed our brews. That guy is one heck of a guitar player. It was a very good hang. Thanks to everyone who stopped by. You guys are great. I'm always impressed by how much more stuff every knows about basses and players than I do. I'm just an old country bass man. :D

We'll plan on next week again. I'm sure we don't have much else going on with all the new restrictions in place. Drat. But I know this too shall pass. Stay safe. Stay strong. God bless.

Now, I think I've got some ice cream in the freezer. :p

Oh, one more thing. Here's 50 seconds of Ortega Highway. :roflmao:

Thanks for hosting another fun hang, Cliff. I appreciate everyone's feedback regarding the bass, which definitely has me reconsidering the refin. I'll find another way to get the cool finish I'm seeking.

Heck, when I saw your Ortega Hwy clip I was expecting to hear Cheech and Chong's take on the America classic as the soundtrack.
I know it doesn't exist but I searched for it anyway - no such luck.

It was another fun Bassmigos hang. As always, thanks for hosting Cliff! :)

That video was a flashback to the 70s. There were natural hot springs out there where us hippie types would consume alternate substances and go skinny dipping. :)

You should post some pics Chris. I'm sure 100% of the feedback would be to NOT refinish that bass.

Hi,

I hope you don't mind. I wanted to be sure my friends to have a chance to heckle me in this thread too. Johnny Magic Fingers and I got together for a little cell phone recording this evening. This is one of the songs we were working up for our acoustic show at Gilley's in Las Vegas this weekend before it got cancelled. I hope @andysvec got to work this weekend. Things are so weird lately.

I didn't read the title before watching the video. I had, at first, though you and Johnny Magic Fingers took the "Bro Country Song Challenge"... one, four, five, six.

I started doing the challenge in musescore but haven't finished. Been inundated with arranging some songs for our choir/band in anticipation of reopening. Some are even ringing my doorbell, in masks, asking for the files. One of the singer's dad (children's choir), even came over with the page number of a song that I need to arrange.

It's nice to be loved.
