Vacation's over and started the week off getting hammered at work yesterday with plenty of questions about things that went wrong last week. No mention of the fact that I logged in and assisted getting things going while I was supposed to be off, but that's life.
Then we got some good news for a gloomy and rainy Tuesday, a band cancelled at a place we are already playing on 9/5 and they offered it to us. Short notice but we're all on board. Now we just need some sunshine on Sunday from 2-6 pm!

It ALWAYS sucks to catch hell coming back from time off. Definitely can empathize with you on that. Definitely fingers crossed for you for Sunday!!!!!
Yeah, that was a hard pill to swallow for sure. Those are the moments it takes every bit of self control to keep my mouth shut before I say something I can't take back!

It’s hard to do. I can’t do it - but then again, my office is full of ex sailors or ex “yard birds” - so it comes with the territory.
So, I missed out on the zoom last night, just plain missed it. After pulling all nighters Tues and Wed overnight shifts at work I plain old fell asleep in my recliner and missed it. Shame on me.
And I actually had some stuff to talk about. Vacation, 3 gigs that came out of nowhere on Sunday and Monday...oh well. I'm sure you carried on fine without me. But I missed the conversation.

Yeah, I was hoping you'd show up and tell us about your place on the lake, maybe bore us a little with a slide show.
I've never been to the Great Lakes. I've seen Lake Michigan when flying into Milwaukee. That sucker is huge. Perhaps next week.

Yes, Lake Superior is a biggie, and I have plenty of stories to bore you with. My father in law chose to buy up there originally because he intended to buy a sailboat, which came later. The Apostle Islands, the big water, lots of forests, it's an amazing place.
I'll try and have some photos ready for next week for your "boredom" pleasure.
If you didn't know, you'd think you were standing on the shore of an ocean. Less sand and no surfable waves of course, but plenty of whitecaps!
You are correct, when you get out past the islands it does look like the ocean! I remember seeing depths over 500 ft on the sailboat's depth finder. Yikes!
We missed you Chris. I know we all showed up expecting engrossing tales and glorious photos of your vacation. While waiting we droned on about strings and old basses with long durations of dead air and uncomfortable silence. When it was obvious you weren't making it you could feel depression setting in and people just kind of drifted away.
Nah... we had fun as usual.
Although we WILL look forward to your vaca report next week, If it makes you feel any better Bill has fallen asleep and missed meetings several times.
Of course he IS old. 
Is this deal on thursday nights then Grant ? I been kind of focused on some construction projects around here and havent been over to Best Buy yet for one of those cameras.
Lake Superior is a formitable force of nature when the weather kicks it up, its been known to swallow large ships whole ( the Edmund Fitzgerald ) I've seen it whipped up a few times, its impressive to say the least, its quite literally an inland ocean. I've also been out on it in my kayak when its flat as glass and you can see the bottom clear as a bell 40 or more feet down. That was the thing that amazed me is how clear the water is.
If I'm not mistaken lake Superior is something like 1400 or maybe 1600 feet deep at its deepest point, I could be off a bit here but its got some deep spots out there.
edit: so its officially 1332 ft. deep somewhere out there

yeah its got some white caps too, those cliffs are over 50 ft. tall, probably more

That made me laugh Grant, I hopefully I'll stay awake to bore you with details next week! Nice to know I was missed.
It is insanely huge, the first times I was there I couldn't get over it. The deepest I saw when we were on the sailboat was somewhere around 600 ft. And since the family place is inside of Madeline Island the biggest whitecaps we've seen are 6-7 ft, still impressive. During storms we've had 1,000 ft freighters pull in front of the place to shelter behind the island for the night.
Those photos are from the north shore. Some guy that grew up in Hawaii and got transfered to Duluth for his job got the surfing thing going, I guess there is a whole group thats doing it now

Wow! I've heard about Great Lakes surfable waves but the only photos I've seen were knee high at best. How often do head high+ waves happen?
Generally late in the year or early spring, water is ice cold so full wet suit is a must. It would be fun to actually see these guys do this if you lived up there. I think this somewhere around Duluth, maybe in the harbor.
