Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

The big lake will be a good place to be this weekend, gonna be a scorcher round here. I wont go travelling on holiday weekends anymore, its crazy on the interstate. During the week its much more relaxed and a lot less traffic

It was definitely a scorcher, what a time to be here.

Son and daughter in law left this AM, and our two daughters just left an hour or so ago. It was great to have everyone here. We swim here anyway no matter how cold the water is, but wow the temp on Friday and Saturday was unreal. We all started the weekend with the best of intentions sun screen-wise but there were some red spots when all was said and done.

Love this place.

That bit of land you see way in the background and to the right side is Madeline Island for those not familiar with this part of the world.

The South shore of Lake Superior is the best in the latter part of the summer.

North shore is a pretty steady 40 degrees year round, so swimming there is not for the faint of heart.

It is a beautiful area for sure. And you're right that is Madeline in the distance as it curves out of sight around the mainland. In the left in the background you can see the marina where my in laws kept their sailboat back when father in law was healthy. We lost him in 2017 after a few years of decline due to Parkinson's and dementia.

Qe are beyond vlessed.to have this place and I'm now in charge of care and maintenance for the next generation. Hope to be able to retire and stay here 1/2 the year every year like he did. Mom in law comes with us often but her joy in being here has diminished since he died. They were high school sweethearts and were married for just shy of 59 years, boggles the mind.

Hi,

I hope you don't mind. I wanted to be sure my friends to have a chance to heckle me in this thread too. Johnny Magic Fingers and I got together for a little cell phone recording this evening. This is one of the songs we were working up for our acoustic show at Gilley's in Las Vegas this weekend before it got cancelled. I hope @andysvec got to work this weekend. Things are so weird lately.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Sounds good! Looks like you had fun doing that.

Hi Chris,

Sorry I missed the zoom meeting last night. Just couldn't pull myself out of vacation mode to get out some tech and log in.

Another sunny day on Lake Superior ahead, life is good this week. :smug:

I'm glad you and the family are enjoying yourselves. I need to take Mrs. BassCliff somewhere soon to stave off the stir crazies. :D

@McG, @ak56, @nixdad, @Tony In Philly, and I were able to solve all the world's problems. Maybe next week we can fill you in on how we did it.

If anyone else would like to join our merry band just drop your email in a PM.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

What's not to love, my favorite spot on earth. Here's a view from the cabin looking straight out toward Madeline Island. Definitely a strange year though, usually there's all kinds of sailboats out there but with so many things closed over virus chaos things are kinda empty. We are just staying hunkered down here. My car hasn't moved since I got here last Thursday and won't u til we leave Sunday to head home. My only transportation has been that blue kayak.

You and Mrs BassCliff should get away while the gigs are light. Helps the soul I think.

Although I'm anxious to hear how you solved the world's problems too! :smug:

What a beautiful vacation spot. Are you somewhere near Bayfield? That looks like a little slice of heaven right there on that huge lake. Wow.

Yes we are about 5 miles south of Bayfield.

And yes, it's more than a little slice of heaven, my favorite spot on earth. Takes work to keep up the place so we usually devote a couple hours a day to one project or another.

But it's so special to our family
My father in law bought this land in 1970, and now that he's gone I like to think he's happy to see us keeping it up.

I usually wait till the latter part of July or first of August to come up, water is generally tolerable and refreshing by then

We'll have to discuss a meetup sometime if we're there at the same time. If such a thing as meetups exist in this time of covid, everyone has there own feelings on that I know.

Respect! We’re just outside Marquette, Michigan. Lake superior in the summer is my favorite part of living up here.

I'm extremely jealous of anyone that is in the immediate area of the great lake. It's a 4 hour haul for us to get there, which makes it hard for short weekend trips. Just home today and missing it already.

I usually just go to Meyers beach by Cornocopia, public access ya know, paddle over to the caves and play around a bit and go for a swim. Myself and couple buddies are big fans of South Shore brewery in Ashland, were particularly fond of the brown ale they make there.

If you want to meet up and do some kayaking sometime that would be swell. I'm actually considering coming up next week sometime but it depends on a few other things that need takin care of around here first.

I have to get some kind of camera hooked up so I can get in on Cliffs weekly video chat. I have hung out with Grant and met Cliff at the Ranch where they play frequently, super nice room and Cliff is just as nice and talented as you would imagine. Would love to meet Gary and Chris sometime too when I get out there again one of these days

Very familiar with all of those places including South Shore brewery.

Unfortunately we won't be going up for another couple weeks now. We have a daughter getting married in Sept so have lots of details to help get ready for that, among other things.

The zoom meetings that Cliff set up are fun if for no other reason than you get to put a face and personality with people you communicate with on TB.
