Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

Hope you all had a great online chat last night, sorry to have missed it.

Last week, as expected, our two Oct dates and one Nov gig all got cancelled, still sad. We were in this exact same position last year if for different reasons. In fall 2019 we played a last great weekend the beginning of Sept and then went on hiatus pending my surgery schedule, not to resume until Dec. As of now our next scheduled date due to covid is NYE, let's hope it happens.

On the good news front, starting to get some photos back from the wedding. Just a couple of my favorites.

Thanks! You got that right, this virus crap is getting very old. Makes me very thankful for the summer stuff we did get.

Thanks to everyone who joined in. Matt dropped by in the middle of his work day. Gary took a break from his kitchen remodel to say "Hi". Arnie's head joined us for some spooky entertainment. Some of were enjoying some barley pop and we all had a good time chewing the fat.

Here's the TC Electronics amp I was talking about last night.

I thought that looked familiar. A gig I played last December had a TC Electronics rig in the back line. It was a nice amp, a BH800.

This was the tribute show at Spaghettini's if you want to refresh your memory. Turns out this amp also had the "Tone Print" feature, two channels of it, plus the built-in tuner.

Not that this old country bass player needs any of that stuff but it's a pretty cool amp. Seems the BH250 runs about $300 and the BH800 about $600. I've got four amps. Do I need another one?

Yes! That's a great price for a 500w amp. There's no fancy "shove it in through the pickups with your phone" sound module but I don't really need that for what I play. Cool amp.

After watching the video and doing some reading it seems the amp only stores two tones at a time, even though there are 6 to download. I thought you could download all the tones into the amp as they come available and select on the fly while playing. Doesn't seem to be the case. I cant see you going thru the download process between songs to get the tone you need for the song.

Nah, I said I only have one amp too. I did play around taking the signal from my wireless into the mixer, as sort of a pre-amp if ever needed at a gig. It would not be optimal but would get me by.

Forgive me if i sounded like I was bragging. I've been playing bass for almost fifty years, bought a few amps over that time, one every ten or twenty years, but never sold any of them. My Fender Baseman 100 was purchased in the 70s, Randall RB2000 in the 80s, GK 800RB in the 90s, and my "new" GK MB500 in 2016.

All of my music gear purchases have been well thought out, purposeful, budget conscience, etc, such that I never feel like selling my old friends. I did sell the first bass I ever bought and I've regretted it ever since.

I have given away a few cabinets, some bare, some with speakers, that I had no use for and were just taking up space in my garage. I don't miss those. But basses and amps are more personal.

Maybe I need a lightweight backup amp. (Now that's the GAS talking.)

Forgive me if i sounded like I was bragging. I've been playing bass for almost fifty years, bought a few amps over that time, one every ten or twenty years, but never sold any of them.

No worries at all, didn't interpret it that way at all. I've owned probably 6 different amps during my years of playing. They were just nothing that I gave a 2nd thought to hanging onto. Love my Rumble 500 at 36lbs but the quest to find smaller band gear that gets the same job done is ongoing.
