Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

I'm supposed to get paid?

You would've liked the meeting last night. @Tony In Philly had some great pictures and history to share from his recent visit to an electronic music museum type place. Hopefully he'll share it here in the forum too.
Dang, sorry I missed it, Cliff.
Thursdays are one of the days of the week that Birdie takes care of her elderly mother all day in Riverside, so I try to have dinner ready by the time she gets home (typically not long after the 6 pm call time.) That, coupled with me working late doesn't make for a good combination. Hopefully, things will ease up a bit and I'll be able to make a call soon. I miss the camaraderie!

Hey Cliff,

The John Entwistle bass that they had on display was actually his Alembic and I forgot to take a photo of that one. Here I am playing the Ric that you mentioned. Apparently it belonged to both Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) and Chris Squire (Yes) at varying times.

And here I am playing a Fender 51 style P-Bass or (maybe an early Tele Bass) that came out of Greg Lake's collection.

And here I am pretending to play Keith Emerson's infamous modular Moog Synthesizer.

Hey Tony!
What a cool place, and thanks for sharing. Where are these guys located in PA?

@BassCliff

Yeah the bass is a Dingwall Lee Sklar that popped up on the classified here. I pounced on it. It's a serious piece of work... Always wanted to get one.

Nice add, Keith!

Well, believe it or not, I was not able to make this week's meeting either. I do have a screenshot from last week's meeting.

You see @ak56, the old country bass player, @1bassplayinfool on the top row with @Tony In Philly, @s0c9, and @dbase on the bottom row. @Thumpinshelton dropped in for about 40 seconds from his car, driving back from a rehearsal.

This week I started the meeting but then had to bail to go to my rehearsal tonight. Bill and Tony were there before I left so I got to say "Hi" to those guys. I hope they had a good time. I tried to join with my phone from my rehearsal but I was way too late, everyone was already gone. Maybe next week we can get together again. You guys are the best.

Did anyone take a screenshot from this week's Zoom GTG?

Thank you for your indulgence,

Sorry I missed last night, didn't finish the project at my son's house til late and had to eat something, by that time just hit the couch and took a nap before going to bed.

And speaking of projects, I'm assembling parts and pieces to make another bass for my daughters to "art-up" for me. Seems they were a little peeved that my son painted the two I have now and they wanted in on the action. So being the high quality dad I am I'll be assembling another one for them to work on, have all the pieces either at my house or on the way. It will be something to talk about going forward.

Hi!

I see Arnie's calendar on his band website is back to being very populated. Good times are returning.

Cannot load truewillie.com for some reason, though.

Yay band! Arnie is booking into 2022 already. He knows how to hustle up gigs.

Try Link Removed but Roger won't be doing any dates this year. That's a shame.

Chris, that sounds like fun! I'm looking forward to seeing how your girls fix up Dad's new bass. Yay Dad!

Thanks Chris! We have a 90 minute set. We haven't played a set longer that 45 minutes in years, even in rehearsal. I'm gonna have to pace myself. :p

The forecast is 80 degrees for the 6:00 downbeat. Nice! :)

Sounds great, don't forget the food shots!

We've had 5 gigs over the last month, 4 at 4hrs and one 2 1/2 hr one.

Not all were worth a gig report or I didn't have any photos. But heading up north for what will now be our 5th annual gig in Bayfield on Lake Superior. Hope for some sun but I'm afraid to look yet.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, friends and neighbors, in-laws and outlaws,

Last night we had another virtual meeting of the TalkBass He-Man Guitar Haters Club.

Several of us were enjoying our favorite suds, except for @Thumpinshelton who was down to his last couple of cans of Miller Lite. It's been a while since he's been to the store. ;) Our discussion started off centered around IT support, coding, clueless software engineers who don't know how to install or configure their own applications, etc, just a general gripe session. Then I had offered to play a game, a couple of quizzes actually. I thought they were a fun distraction and I actually learned something. In attendance for the quiz show was (l-r, t-b) @dbase, the old country bass player, @s0c9, @Kitsapbass, @1bassplayinfool, @Thumpinshelton, and @McG.

Zoom-GTG-070121.jpg

Our first quiz was generally about the bass, this one: Bass Guitars Quiz | 10 Questions

The collective wisdom (some answers were voted on, majority rules) got 9 out of 10, average 6/10. Congratulations to @Kitsapbass for getting the "Bill Wyman" answer correct when the majority of us got it wrong. @s0c9 knew the Paul Tutmark answer right off the bat when I didn't have a clue.

The next quiz was generally about famous bass players. I knew only a few of the answers for this one but everyone else was really up on who played bass for whom, impressive guys. @Thumpinshelton was quick with the correct answer several times. I was just guessing. The quiz is here: Famous Bass Players Quiz | 10 Questions

Thanks to the team we aced that quiz with a 10 out of 10. Average score is 7/10.

It was great to hear most of us are starting to play more gigs. Ross is behind several gig reports. Keith is playing all the time too, all over the place. Grant's schedule is settling in to at least one show a month. Cool. Nate told us the sad tale of leaving one of his bands due to their lack of everything. :p And Bill's band is hot! They are starting to get choosy about the gigs they take and work smarter, not harder. Nice!

Thank you for a pleasant evening, my friends. To the "regulars" like @nixdad, @WI Short Scaler, @Holdsg, @ak56, @Tony In Philly, @Bassed in NZ, and the "semi-regulars" like @Bunk McNulty, @BassDad1964, @bluesblaster, etc, you were all missed and I hope we will see you all soon. Until then, God bless you all and take care.

Quiz 1: 8/10. Alison Steele was just a lucky guess. No idea about Wyman!

Famous Bass Players: 9/10. I guess I'm a really good guesser. Jeff Pilson, Rudy Sarzo, Cliff Burton were all guesses!

Sorry I missed the conversation, but mowing, packing, trailer loading, to leave on vacation tonight took all night last night.

On the quizzes I got 7/10 on the bass quiz and 9/10 on the famous bass player quiz. So I possibly missed my one shining moment to show off some otherwise useless knowledge.

Enjoy your 4th of July holiday gentlemen!
