Headstock Decal Etiquette

I heard of a builder (who obviously shall be named nameless, since I have no absolute proof) who had been caught more than once taking apart Fenders, replacing parts, and then trying to sell them as 2 separate original Fenders. Taking the position of numerous people here, there is nothing wrong with that.

What exactly, is Fender's stance on someone putting a Fender decal on a bass built to look like a Precision or Jazz bass, etc?
They don't sell decals but quite a few people on ebay do...both here in the USA and other countries.
Would they have a problem if a Squier logo was replaced with a Fender logo?
Is it simply too much bother for them legally to stop the sale of Fender logos?

Earlier, I suggested it would be good to get their view on the subject. The people who sell them are not authorized.

Based on a discussion with someone who does repros of vintage Fenders, I don't think it is legal.

So if you bought a Fender bass and GK amp, you would take off the names? Good way to kill the resale value. Nothing personal, but I doubt anyone is buying (or not buying) something based on what they see you play.

And yes, you can do whatever you want, but unless you can guarantee the bass will never belong to anyone else, you are contributing to the problem.

Just curious here. For you guys that have put a Fender logo on a licensed neck or are thinking about it, what's so bad or embarrassing about having no logo? I would agree the headstock looks plain but see no shame in saying "Fender doesn't make a neck to my preferred specs", "I wore the original out" or "the original was damaged/destroyed".

Funny thing is, Fender sells about a dozen replacement necks all with the Fender logo, which people are free to put on any bass they choose. I would love it if the particular neck I prefer was available individually (Fender makes it, they just don't sell it individually) Lots of good feedback. I suppose no one would have a problem with a Fender replacement neck and a Warmoth body. In any case, I am looking forward to building something that I think is pretty cool, and don't really give too much thought to selling. There is a website that will allow you to create a Fender-ish waterslide with your own custom text. I like that from an aesthetics point of view.

I see no problem.

If I sell my car to someone and they drink and drive and kill someone did I contribute to the problem? What about all the new repro classic cars going on? Shold they be logo less?

Would everyone get mad if sanded off the Ernie Ball logo on all my Music Man stuff and put a Fender logo on it? Would I be trying to cheat someone? Cmon.

People should be given the benefit of the doubt. People who post and admit that there bass has a logo placed on it arent your problem. Crooks are your proble. They will try to steal any way they can. It doesnt matter if its a bass neck with a different name on it or something else.

I do love the debate of this topic. I respect everyones opinion on it. I just dont agree with everyone. AMERICA!!

It's not a matter of anybody buying anything based on my visibility, I find the blatant logo and branding in many modern products offensive. I don't wear clothes with obvious logos either. I find a big waterslide decal on the headstock of a guitar in very poor taste. That's my personal opinion. When I buy a car, I take the dealer's license plate frame off. I just feel like music might be better off if people cared (one way or another) a lot less about logos. In some of my other life pursuits I am occasionally involved in racing that has sponsors... in those cases, it's a contractual deal, the company is paying to have their logo placed on something, so fine. Otherwise, I feel like we're being co-opted into caring about something that's not in our best interests.

As for resale, I play (badly), not collect. Collectors have their own thing going on (not my thing, but carry on if that's your thing).
