heaviest band ever

oh! i definately shoulda thought of that!
like, recording doesnt do them justice in heaviness stakes.
i saw them live the same day i saw lamb of god,
niether of them downtune and despite LOG being more typicaly metal, these dudes are SO much heavier!
its great to see so many people's ideas of heavy.
Personally - i actually draw the line at the blast beat for things that I'll listen to - to sure - that precludes me from listening to a lot of supposedly heavy music
but seriously give me slow, thick as molASSus grooves with a giant kick drum and really big cymbals ANY day.
I think that's why I gravitate to the Sabbath end of the spectrum
which is why I'll back up Electric Wizard, Sleep, Kyuss, and Clutch (like juggernaut)

Now this is what I call "HEAVY METAL"
Imagine if one day we seen a marching band parading down the street playing Metallica
Most of these have been mentioned before, but bear mentioning again.
We'll start with SunnO)))- they are astonishingly awesome and heavy as hell.
Then we'll hit up Electric Wizard- which is one of my main choices for relaxation music (note that that's not a bad thing).
Then comes Jesu, whose first album is heavy as hell, and even their 'lighter' stuff has as much intensity and emotion as you could possibly like.
Linked to the previous, Godflesh. Justin Broadrick's previous project before starting Jesu, it has all the heaviness of Jesu, except more so.
One that hasn't been mentioned, BORIS/boris. Genre-hopping, but when you get a metal album, it's as heavy as anything.
Neurosis is one of the pioneers, a direct progenitor of BORIS, Jesu, and SunnO))), and is just as heavy as that implies.
Khanate is a lot like SunnO))), and had at least one of its members in it, and is just as good.
Earth, the direct inspiration and the reason SunnO))) was named SunnO))) is also very heavy.
Burning Witch, Reverend Bizarre, and Candlemass are all straight-up doom and are all incredibly good and heavy.
I don't have much of their stuff, but Swallow The Sun are extremely heavy from what I've heard.
And, my pick for the heaviest band ever, a big influence on Godflesh and thus a pretty big amount of a lot of modern bands... early SWANS. SWANS isn't even metal, but when it comes to intensity, their early stuff wins hands down against any band EVER. Give their song 'Raping A Slave' a try.
Note that most of this is actually tamer than my usual listening choices- I'm a big fan of extremely experimental music that consists feedback and distortion, mostly.
