Hello From Jeff Berlin

Great to hear from you again. I remember you being one of the first people whose comments I read in any online format going way back. I can't remember if it was in alt.guitar.bass or The Bottom Line. I hope I behaved myself in those days, but we were all growing accustomed to this new thing called the Internet.

I remember one of your comments about teaching, that you don't interrupt students for making little mistakes. I took that to heart when coaching my own kids through their beginning string lessons (violin and cello), and it's a great antidote to the tendency of parents to micro-manage.

It is a pleasure to have this new opportunity to chat with people on Talkbass about learning how to play better. Being back in this forum is a marvelous thing. It allows me to share thoughts about learning the bass in ways that I have learned and researched over many years. If learning well is an interest you have, please chime in and say hello.

Best regards to all from Jeff
Hey Jeff.

Great to see your post here, Jeff! : ) I recall very fondly a Bruford show at The Bottom Line, being familiar with Bill Bruford but not this project yet, and still have visual and aural images of you vivid in my mind 35 odd years later. I was especially struck by the playfulness and fun in your playing and persona. Made quite an impression on me. I wasn't even a bassist until 20 years later : )

Welcome Jeff.

Greetings! I humbly apologize and intend no insult for not knowing of you or your history. I am a novice player, learning on my own, and I was not familiar with your credentials until I read this thread. So, I searched for you and found some of your online lessons. Thanks for sharing your lessons and insight. I am very happy to have discovered you and I will certainly practice your methods. Very nice to meet you.

Having no bass playing peers or mentors, TB has been a terrific resource for learning about technique, equipment/instruments, band situations, and the never ending quest for tone. You guys will be hard pressed to get rid of me.
