Help dress me up, please.

Joe, have you ever thought of going retro?

... I'm giving you six options. That's all I got...

Started reading this yesterday & then got sidetracked. Definitely avoid the Crockett & Tubbs look altogether!

IIRC, you joined an existing wedding/corporate band, no? I know I'm stating the obvious, but .. do they have pics on their website or any YT gig videos from before you got there? If so, see what they wore on previous gigs.

I think it would be cool for the whole band to go clothes shopping, with instruments and all. In fact, you could record it and add bits into a music video or promo video.

The look on the attendants face should be worth the effort, especially if you turn up with drums and all!

This is easy: instead of going to the store and buying the same black jeans and black t-shirts, head to a decent department store and steer yourself towards the basic designer gear that will look sharp for a long time. Perry Ellis, Kenneth Cole, etc. A fitted shirt and some classy pants will do you good. Avoid discount stores and cellophane-wrapped shirts with all the pins in them. (Also: that solid color satin tie pimp/fake mafioso look is already out of fashion.). A sale rack at Macy's or Nordstrom's will be full of inexpensive clothes that look awesome. Trust me on this, I dressed like an idiot 15 years ago.

I second the other TB'er who suggested Goodwill and other no profit thrift stores for band wear. If you are only using it for stage you can score some great deals and multiple looks cheap, going to a Goodwill.

That seems easy since they just wear mainly blazers and button downs. I like the blur the line myself between dressy and casual. (note i wear a lot of hats because my head is a wreck up there, however you won't need that ) :)

Dude in grey with purple shirt is on point!

Grey suit (or vest) + Black shirt. For more casual gigs, grey vest, black shirt, black pants (or jeans). Kerchief in the pocket is a nice detail. Avoid pleated pants -- flat front, the slimmer the better. Maybe check the Express store at the mall? Their stuff is tailored for a younger, hip look.

As are these two guys.

You can ge a lot of mileage out of grey by changing up shirt colors, adding a contrasting vest, etc.

While those shoes look nice now, I would spend money on allen edmonds or aldens instead. They are really pricey, but will last a life time if taken care of. No matter how well you take care of cheaper shoes, they don't age well.

I hear ya, though I plan to buy a few pairs of shoes. I'm thinking each pair will be getting worn maybe 2X a month. Will probably drop some money on a pair I find that I REALLY like. The ones I bought I like. Don't love them though.

They were doing the black suit thing, and said they want to move away from that. I can also ask them for more help, but I think it's better to go this one on my own. I asked a couple of times and got the same kind of answers, so I let it go after that.

If all else fails there's always..

Don't spend a lot on Gig Wear. I sweat when I play so for gigs I have budget fashion clothes. There's advertisement on the web for like $50 suits. Take them to a dry cleaner and have the slacks double stitched LOL!!! I slap so a suit coat is out when I'm actually playing. I'll wear a nice Old Head Camp Shirt, dress slacks and comfortable shoes. When I wear a suit I'll have a decent dress shirt but will take the jacket off. Vests work too with a nice shirt and new jeans. I'm bald so I usually have some kind of nice hat. For Gigs I'll go to Burlington coat factory and buy like $8-16 hats just to sweat out and then I steam clean them and put in the dish washer. Since I play Funk and R&B I also have two pairs of white pants and white shirts because someone is always throwing a "White Party" I'll usually bring a change of clothes for after the Gig because when you sweat out white clothing well you're just on display LOL!!!! I bought the white pants off the web from some Chinese vendor. Only spent less that $20 on the pants. Pic shows example of the type of camp shirt. And I usually wear short sleeves because long sleeves get in the way of my Slap Game. Another trick for winter gigs. A dress T, a scarf and a Hat. see my Avatar Pic. I also invested in a cheap $100 Tux and Tux shirt and bow tie for Weddings or Formal Events (hate wearing the tux). Again I buy with the thought that whatever I wear I'm going to sweat it out.
