Since I've never owned or really even played a short-scale, I'm totally guessing here... but I think C and E are shorties. Have no idea which one is the Stang.
A sounds a bit like a passive Warwick.
I like the sound of B the best, which is funny because I typically don't care for that much "zing" in a bass tone. I'll be interested to know what instrument was used for that track.

hmm. its tricky fer sure.
B and D sound Jazz bass ish to my ears. A, C and E sound like short scales.
Although I'm thinking C could be a long scale P bass.

That's true. If the strings aren't roughly the same age, it really does skew the test.
After having read 5 pages, and made my choices before reading, I now really want to know the answer. As best I can tell

Ok... After some listening i have my answer.
1 - Short scale... No idea what model
2 - Jazz with both pickups on full
3 - P bass
4 - Jazz with neck pickup only
5 - Short scale P bass

No idea, these all sound like poo because they have roundwounds.
But yeah, you should do it with flats, just because.

So I just spent 5 minutes switching between all of these and honestly can't tell a d4mn bit of difference between them. And on good speakers even.
I think I just discovered I don't have a very discerning ear. Just like in "Little Miss Sunshine" when the son realizes he can't be a fighter pilot b/c he's color blind.

A sounded kinda muddy, but D ended up sounding the best to me...I have no idea which is which to be honest lol

Man, as an aside, I had that very thing happen to me when i was 11. Dreams dashed......anyway, I now drive a ridiculously fast car instead.
And, all I can say is that B sounded the best, it's a Jazz isn't it? I can tell a jazz anywhere.
Seriously man, don't sweat it. Just about any bass would sound appropriate for that type of "driving riff" bass line, especially in that range. If they all sound pretty good does it really matter? A lot of aspects of effective bass playing is "blue collar" stuff, like pounding nails or digging ditches. Some bassists that turn this into brain surgery just end-up getting in everybody's way while they're over thinking, over amping and over q-ing anyway.So I just spent 5 minutes switching between all of these and honestly can't tell a d4mn bit of difference between them. Wow, I hope this thread doesn't migrate to page two or three just because we all got weary waiting for the answer....
