Hi everyone my name is tony, am from the uk!!.. only just joined this site and wondered if anyone can help me?
i been thinking of getting a bass for my little project home studio and was saving sum cash for a squire precision...anyways on sunday i went to a car boot sale and on a stall i saw what was a bass without strings on it, the lady said it needed repair has the wires were hanging out! i been playing guitar for a few yrs and recognize the name fender the lady wanted £60 for it but let me have it for 45 when she saw how eager i was! i got it home and ordered sum strings which i put on then plugged it in ands its working all pickups and tone control! and stays in tune now it sounds quite good too me but i dont have a bass amp so i put it through my line 6 interface and its working good! do you guys think this is a real fender when i look at jazz basses they have a different body shape so i cant be sure and can i get the proper machine heads that fit and a back cover for the electrics? thnx in advance tony

That's a crazy score. Some standard black tuners should work fine, looks like the bushing is missing from the D. You can make a template of the back cover and cut it out of some sheet plastic with a coping saw if you want, or find one online.

Not silly, it's the tuner bushing for the D string. Goes around the post to keep it centered in the hole.
I'd take a measurement of the hole and get a new set of black tuners and bushings. Hipshot would be your best choice.

Btw, the early series have a all-black Polycoat necks, more looked after than the later in clear Poly. Near its end the factory chipped out a short living JB-specs series, but the hype on the "JB Special" was over already ... *_*
