HELP! Purchased bass from GC that was mislabled

That Cort JP5 is a great bass on it's own, but they only went for like $800 new so you would need some pretty significant upgrades to reach the $1300 mark.

Take it back. You can prove it's the bass you purchased because the unique pattern matches what's online. I'd grab a screen shot or two, just in case, but they will give you your money back no worries. Will they resist it as an Erick? Maybe.

There's literally no need to come up with a reason for return. Just say you didn't like it, or nothing at all. It's honestly none of their business, and you're playing by the rules THEY set up.

that's true that you dont "need" a reason, but it's still worth telling them whats up. if you bought online, you can make an argument to save the $30 or so shipping charges that you would normally be responcible for.

It took me a while to realize it's a C on the headstock and not an E. I never knew this collaboration existed until now. Or who Josh Paul is, but I don't want to punch him. Return it, or get a refund for the difference if you love it.

I really wanted a JP5 when they first came out. And yes the original street price was right at $800 before taxes.

Yes. If you like the bass, politely explain the misidentification to them and maybe they'll give you a reasonable price. If not, they need to take it back and should refund the shipping as well. Since it's GC though, anything could happen.

Sorry this happened to you.

I would definitely return it. GC either got duped or they goofed on a trade in. I have seen OLP Stingray copies listed there of $1099 as Stingrays before. It's not the norm but it does happen once in a while.

With GC used, I have learned to NEVER buy without talking to a salesperson and asking copious questions about actual condition and when necessary, to confirm the model listed is actually the model listed. GC's used listings rating system and meta data are a joke and used inconsistently.

Research material on almost any model bass is one search away, usually here on TB. Especially with a model like this one where they are not as abundant as MIM Fenders, take the time to find out what the defining features and specs of the bass are and have a salesperson in the guitar department answer questions for you about that bass and the presence of those features when he or she has the bass in hand.

Once in a while you get a jerk who seems troubled to answer your questions, or you get a dud that just isn't too engaged or paying attention to detail. End the call and try later when someone else is there. Or just forget it and wait for another to come up. Between GC used, ebay and reverb there is a train leaving every 15 minutes and nothing at GC is so rare that you have to rush to buy it.

Back to your situation: From my POV, you can't win here. If you love the Cort you still way overpaid for it. And if you expected a USA Elrick you didn't get what was listed.

So the only thing to do is get your money back from GC and either hunt down a USA Elrick or go find the Cort for $400 elsewhere.

Good luck to you.

Born and raised in La Mesa here. Went to Helix High way back long time ago. My only real problem with SD was the Chargers could not win a championship. For me going all the way back to the Dan Fouts era.

Nice! Had many friends who went to Helix. I was born in Mission Beach. Live in Clairemont now.

If anyone wants to poo poo our sports teams, go right ahead. We live here and know they are lousy. I was a happy 8-8 Charger fan. At least the Spanos family is gone!!! Booyah

Just to stay on topic, Josh Paul is pretty badass. I thought it was cool at the time he paired up with Cort/Elrick to do this. US Elrick models were (and still are) way out of my reach.
