HIGHSCHOOL WOODSHOP BUILD #2

OK quick post. i had to widen the pickupcover because there wasnt enough room for the screws, so what better to do that with than some padouk. and i added a strip of bacote between the 2 top peices.

I like the build so far...

...but can you re-do that p'up cover so that there is an even amount of paduk on each side? Maybe there is and I'm not seeing it correctly, but it kind of sticks out.

Don't mean to be critical, but you have a good eye for this stuff and some decent skills. Like a previous poster said, don't leave anything done half-ass or else you'll regret it later.

i didn't mean it to be half assed, i just ran out of padouk and i wanted to have the big side be a thumbrest kind of deal and the other side just be enough to hold a screw. i know it looks weird but thats what the whole build is for.

man, that is awsome, i really wish i could come up with wicked designs like that. im doin originals but nothin to this extent. I wanted to ask your permission first actaully, i was hoping i could pretty much steal your design. i will change the wood around and i might do some different stuff with f holes and such, but i really love it and i didnt want to just take it. if you want it to be the only one im cool with that, dont think your obligated to say yes, in fact if it was me, i would probably say no. thanks a million

ok well i got the scarf joint almost done i just need to cuth the neck taper first so i can glue it. its on a 9 degree angle. also i am working on a logo for the headstock... its harder than i thought. also i am takin in my centerblock tomorrow and putting it on the old bridgeport and hogging out a bunch material. Its hard to tell from the picture what i am doin but basically i am drilling out all of the middle of it ecept for a few areas for strength and for a pickup. its gonna take a lon time but at least it will be nice and accurate. and for the pickupcover it got kinda messed up on the bridge port so i am salvaging some of it and making a new one. ill have pictures as soon as i am done.

cool. i think you could slot bthe fingerboard by making a guide jig and sawing by hand. just make the center on the front and back of the fingerboard, and on the jig, and the sides of the jig. clamp it centered and hand saw it. when you get to the center of the board, where you cant see if you are centered from the top view, look at its underside and see that the back cenerline of the fb is lined with the side/back centerline on both sides. you could buy this or make one as your slotting jig

Hey Paul,

The headstock logo looks awful, if you ask me. Are you going for a bass clef worked in there? Because right now, you have it sideways & mirror-image, and it looks more like a frowny-face. How about re-using the curve from the "s" in Karas, like this?

(Please forgive my god-awful Photoshop skillz...)

Well for some reason the muti quoting system is not working so ill do it this way

jordan,
i was thinkin about makin one of those cause but i dont think ill have time i think i will jut make a depth stop on my saw and cut them without a box ill do some practice ones first. and ill make a center line and make sure they are all square and whatnot but i still need to make a guide with all of the fret measurements on it.

hows your build or builds goin any more news?

Dave,
yea it was my first drawing i just was tryin to get a thought down on paper, i get what your sayin now that you pionted it out it does look like a frowny face. i just want to have a bass clef snuck in somwhere. they look so damn cool.

I like TicTacs,
i am thinkin about just doin a big K but id like to have my last name on the bass somwhere but i dont know where to put it.

Thanks, Paul
