History Channel - Vikings

It feels to me like they're starting to spread the show thin adding more storylines.

I was glad to get caught up on Lagertha and Bjorn, but it was kind of 'meh' to me what's going on there. Great, a son doesn't like his step dad. Never heard of that one before.

I got the impression they were setting it up for Bjorn to kill his step dad...I also got the feeling Rollo will hook up with Bjorn and maybe Lagertha, and put together an army to take out Jarl Borg, but that's just speculation.

It will be interesting to see what kind of plan Ragnar and King Ecbert come up with, and which one of them betrays the other.

I know what you mean about the Bjorn storyline, I got the feeling he was going to do it in last nights episode. That whole storyline, for me at least, is too cliche. The step father/step son storylines are too predictable.

The preview for next week showed Ragnar going back to Kattegat. If Rollo is hiding in the mountains, I wonder what Ragnar is going to find. Does Bjorn run away home to see his father, but on arriving finds Jarl Borg who realizes who Bjorn is and kills him? Is the baby with the snake eye really Ragnar's child? Maybe Lagertha chases after Bjorn, but gets to Kattegat and unites with Rollo to kill Borg and his men? What about King Horik?

I am left with the impression that Jarl Borg killed everyone in Kattegat except for the royal party that escaped into the mountains. Was that really a smart play?

Also, I think they are really overplaying the ineptitude of King Ecbert's soldiers in battle. All they seem to do is rush forward, flail their arms out to the side and wait for an axe to the chest. Come on.

The show does seem to be following a rough historical outline. Ragnar, Lagertha, Rollo, King Horik and King Ecbert are all historical figures. I think that if you want to know how things are going to develop in the show you just need to consult google. Case in point? The first documented Viking raid was on the island of Lindisfarne, off the northwest coast of England. And that was the first western raid we saw in the series.

I've been watching since last season. And it's been interesting to see how things have developed. Some of the character actually seem to be developing some growth, which is refreshing. I had some skepticism about the History Channel producing an original program like Vikings. And the show really hasn't had a whole lot of star power attached to it. Most of the actors are relative unknowns except for Gabriel Byrne as Earl Haraldson in the first season, and Donal Logue as King Horik. Hell, I was pleased to see Vladimir Kulich in a couple of episodes of the first season since he played Bulwei in one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies, The 13th Warrior. And oddly enough, he played a Viking chieftain in that, too!

But Lagertha and Princess Aslaug? OMG. Both are just amazing.

I think he is kind of a brutal thug of a King. Like his descicion to kill that guy in the priest's(Bishop?) party right before they left. I know, I know, he needed to impress upon them they meant business. Ragnar shows more sense then Horik in my opinion, he doesn't intentionally provoke, he's more into "here are two choices I am firmly giving you, both suck: you must decide which one you think sucks the least for you and act on it."

Yarl Borg doesn't seem to have that many men....I look forward to seeing him get his butt and his head handed back to him in small chopped pieces.

I thought the casting directors did a pretty good job coming up with an actor that looks very close to what Bjorn would look like older. I've seen many shows with younger/older versions of a given character that weren't even close. Will he return and rejoin with Ragnar, and will Lagertha get back with him later on down the road? We'll see.

The one casting thing that bothers me a little is Donal Logue as King Horik. It's really my problem rather than his. He was in some sitcom back in the day and I just can't suspend my disbelief enough to look at him as Horik.

I got that impression the first time I watched the episode as well. The second time I watched it with a friend, and Horik expressed a facial reaction to the guy scoping out his men and getting the lay of the land. I think he saw him as someone seeking to determine their strengths and weaknesses, not that he couldn't have done the same from the back but the vantage up front would certainly have been much better. Had the man not been looking around and stayed focused on the meeting I don't know that Horik would have giving him a second thought.

So Ragnar's back at home and it's on.
Rollo did a very good job of hiding Ragnar's family from Jarl Borg. It seems he's back in the fold and ready to rock.
I'm not clear about the soldiers that came with Lagertha and Bjorn. Are they just loyal to Lagertha or are some/all of them loyal to Lagertha's current hubby?
The crucifixion of the English apostate was kind of rough to watch. I suppose King Ecbert saved him for intelligence value? I think King Horik's raiding party is in real trouble now. They should pack it in and live to raid another day. They have lost any advantage that they may have had. Maybe they're setting up Horik's death at the hands of the Ecbert.
I was pleased to see that this episode didn't portray the English army as a bunch of total idiots for a change.

Ok so I joined this thinking it was a forum for the History channel show Vikings! But now I see it is for bass guitar! (I play guitar...but not bass so maybe it is ok to be here??)

Anyway....for those who are watching Vikings, (I am addicted, about a month ago I found the show and watched all of season 1 in two nights) last nights show was so good. Ragnar and Bjorn reunited, Ragnar on fire for revenge against Jarl Borg..yet..could Ragnar not be a tad bit more grateful to Lagertha for bringing him some able bodied men to help him get his land back??? What is with the shade he threw on her as he walked away wrapped around Bjorn?? I love Ragnar, his character is wonderful but this was sort of unlike him.

I had the same question about where those men with Lagertha came from. We didn't see her husband agree to help (perhaps he had a change of heart after she took him down with a knee to his groin??) but why would such a nasty fellow allow her to go off alone with his men to help her ex husband? Will they now have him on their tail as well as Jarl Borg? Did hse take the men and just leave? Without her husband knowing?
I'm sure we'll find out...but I do hope for a Ragnar and Lagertha reunion. They belong together. That princess is a drag and so wrong for him!! Sons or no sons!

Yes I thought the same thing about Jarl Borg/ Jarlsburg cheese!

I felt bad for Jarl Borg. He got snaked out of his land and Horik is a turd. He stole his lands and then cut him out of the deal which left Ragnar vulnerable to Jarl Borg's revenge. Horik is the one who created this mess and he wouldn't even go back with Ragnar to help him get his land back from Jarl Borg. I don't like him and I have a feeling he is dead now anyway. The English are finally getting their act together.

Even though I am routing for Ragnar!! And Athlestan???? Crucified?????? Maybe he will now see who the truly merciful of the two groups really is? He was never treated so badly with Ragnar and those 'Christians" are his own people! They nearly killed him, in a most barbaric way. So who are the real barbarians??? The Norse or the Christians. Sorry to say they are no different than each other. Both want power, and, riches. I always sympathize with the pagans. The Christians have never had my support especially because they act so holy and yet are so very cruel. At least with the Vikings they were honest about who and what they are!

Go Ragnar Lothbrok!!! Kick some butt!

I don't think Horik is going to get out of this alive and frankly I will be happy to see him go. He has caused a lot of trouble and I don't trust him. He threw Ragnar under the bus with his stunt cutting Jarl Borg out of the deal after he stole his land. Then would not go back and help Ragnar save his family. Horik needs to go, he is a selfish, trouble maker and he will cause more trouble for Ragnar if he lives. Many of his men got it last night. I can't imagine he has many men left. I hope the English fry him!
