Those are all historical or legendary characters from that area, particularly Lagertha. Wife and I have been watching this show from the start and have argued over everything from the spelling of the names to what occurred 2 episodes back.

Lagertha was, according to legend, a Danish Viking shieldmaiden from what is now Norway, and the onetime wife of the famous Viking Ragnar Lodbrok. Her tale, as recorded by the chronicler Saxo in the 12th century, may be a reflection of tales about Þorgerðr Hölgabrúðr, a Norse deity.
Her name as recorded by Saxo, Lathgertha, is likely a Latinization of the Old Norse Hlaðgerðr (Hladgerd).[1] It is frequently rendered in English-language sources as "Lagertha", and has also been recorded as Ladgertha, Ladgerda or similar.

Rollo is a latin translation of Hrolfr/Rolf.

Lagertha is a latin translation of Hlaogeror/Hladgerd.

Vikings did not speak/write latin.

But I guess they sound better in "Hollywood-speak".

The show wasn't produced for a primarily Norwegian audience. When in an English speaking country you will get English, with Latinizations. Maybe they'll do a voiced over version for people in the countries depicted. Not likely, just maybe.

I love the show.

I was kind of disappointed when Lagertha didn't put on her shield maiden outfit and kick his butt like she did when she wanted to go on the second raid with him.

Great show - been watching since the beginning. So wifey left Ragnar w/kid ... somehow she will forgive him, and get back together - after all she is one of the main characters.

I don't want to spoil this for you but if you read up on the historical character of both Ragnar and Logertha it won't be that simple, by far. The story line is actually following the legends plot fairly well.

Just imagine if the new lady has a son(s) for Ragnar....

I was surprised by the four year jump ahead in episode two, wasn't expecting that. I liked Ragnar's son Bjorn, so I wonder who will play him now.

After the new episode ran (at least in our area) they ran some footage that was sort of a condensed timeline of all the episodes AND a piece of some of the future. Queen of the Shield Maidens Lagertha will be back - the clip showed her saying to Rollo of all people, with a sword in her hand, "then we must fight!" And oddly the second showing (they show it twice back2back here) of this episode started with maybe 1 minute of footage before where the first showing started. Nothing important in that time, I'm guessing it was snipped out by my local channel to make room for commercials. The later time slot sells fewer commercials so they put the footage back in to fill time.

I love all things Viking related. When the show was advertksing it was coming out I k ew Id watch it. What really got me was when a commercial said the name of one of my ancestors. I thought it might be a cool coincidence but I think the main character is supposed to be my ancestor. Mine is called Ragnar LODbrock of Denmark. The guy in the show is Ragnar LOTHbrock. Ive been hooked into a few moments of the first season but season 2 started so bada$$ i cant wait for more episodes.
