History Channel - Vikings

I'm not down with the Lagertha lesbian action though.

I watch on my Roku. They had a seven and then eight commercial break back to back around a segment that felt like maybe 5-6 minutes. That was lame.

I missed you guys!! So glad we are all back on here to share the season 4 second go round. I agree with you on the lesbian thing with Lagertha. Just doesn’t seem right, although I can imagine that the shield maidens could very well have hooked up with each other, all that training and fighting together. Although I’ve not looked into what historians really know about them. Did they train together or with the men? I always thought they might do both. Train with the men and then practice with each other.

Yes we do need to go through the back story as they did a big time jump and I know I for one have questions. I was;t able to watch that episode on The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok. It said I had to have some kind of a token or something?? What the heck is that? Anyone know? Did anyone else try to watch that episode on the History Channel??

Same here. I even uninstalled the History Channel, rebooted my Roku, then installed it again. Same issue. I am guessing it was bandwidth issues with History Channel in general. I was watching an episode of American Pickers earlier, and it was like that too.

The Floki/Ragnar moment was super awesome. He's going to be in a tough spot as he heads off with Bjorn. If I read into the season preview, I think they all unite later in the season to challenge England.

That was sweet, Floki will change his mind I mean really...Ragnar finally gave him a bone. I am sure Floki will go with Ragnar, maybe Bjorn too and at least one or two of his other sons.

I was looking forward to Ragnar and Lagertha seeing each other after his return, that was sort of lame, I always want more from those two than Hirsch is willing to give us. But...the tears in her eyes as he rode away said a lot. And that he said he regretted leaving their farm, about time he admitted that. Being king was good for a while but it seems to me he is just plain sick and tired of the madness of war and all the dirty games and having to always watch his back.

They may all be pissed at him, but I really think they will all come around. I was sort of surprised that he tried to hang himself.

You guys seem to know that Lagertha is going to attack Kattegat, I did see in the coming attractions that she says “there can only be one queen in Kattegat” I haven’t seen coming attractions for the 2nd episode yet because I’m watching on the History Channel and they don’t give us those so I am going to go look on You Tube. But...if she does attack Kattegat yikes!! It looks pretty big, how many warriors does she have now?

It said in the listings that it was a recap of season 4, but it was really a recap of the series from the very beginning up until present date. I thought it was pretty good, but I wish they would have made it 2 hours long instead of 1 hour so they could have included more. It would have been movie worthy if it had been 2 hours!

If you can - try to watch the new mini-series right after Vikings called "Real Vikings". They show the actual history of the events, and how they incorporated it into the Vikings series. The 1st episode in the series had a great deal to do with Rollo "one of the greatest Vikings", and Clive Standen was a guest for that section of the show.

That was one of the touching parts of the show, seeing Ivar crying, as he's been a brutal person so far. Going back to axing the other young child in the head earlier in the season.

I am so sad to see the decline of Ragnar. I am hoping inside Hirsch has some plot/history twist that has him regain his glory, respect, and power. Sadly, I think he's got one, maybe two, episodes left. :(

I watched The Vision again last night. Great episode, although I am still so sad watching Ragnar deteriorate.
Lagertha confused me a bit though. When she confronts Auslag during the sacrifice ceremony, she says this...'I can never forgive you for taking my husband.......and my world.....and look what you've done with it'.
The first part is understandable, but I'm not clear what she means by 'and look what you've done with it'.
Kattegat is a trade center, by all appearances doing well financially and socially. Ragnar is how he is by his own choices.
I don't get what Lagertha is upset about in that comment. Anyone else?

I sure misread some of what went on last week - I thought the brothers may have known of Ivar's inability to perform by the way Sigurd was smiling as they pulled him across the water, but I guess it doesn't matter now. Ivar sure was enraged when Sigurd said "she feels pity for you - that's all". I think that's part of the reason (beside all the special treatment by his mother/family) that he chose to go with Ragnar as a way to prove himself to himself, and his family.

That was my favorite scene when Lagertha came up behind Auslaug, and made that statement, but also unclear what she meant by "and look what you've done with it". It's clear that there's a rivalry brewing when Lagertha said to Auslaug "you call yourself a queen, but you'll never be queen of Kattegat again".

It was touching from a mother's point of view near the end when intuition kicked in after Auslaugs dream, and she just knew that Ivar had perished, but what happened to the rest ...

I think you're right. Remember when he's talking to his mother about the gods approval, and then he says 'One day with my father is better than a lifetime of pity'?

One thing I was thinking about too is this alliance between Harald and Bjorn.
It was curious to me how Ragnar watched Harald and his ships sail into port from atop the mountain as Bjorn stood there on the dock smiling and waiting. Ragnar remembers Harald and his desire to become king of Norway. It came up with Bjorn a little later during the party when Bjorn brought it up himself, and then Harald sort of sarcastically mentioned how could he defeat Ragnar. Maybe Harald is unaware of the developments in Kattegat since Paris?
I need to watch this episode again.
I wonder why Bjorn does not seem Harald and his brother as threats. Perhaps he wants to use them to attack Rome, then dispatch of those guys while abroad?
Bjorn is a smart guy. When Ragnar questioned Bjorn allying with Rollo, Bjorn talked about how it was necessary for his overall plan.

On this weeks episode "Rise of the Pagans" on "Real Vikings"; Professor Terry Gunnell (Folkloristics), and Clive Standen journeyed to Iceland "a place where the echo's of the Vikings can still be heard today" to find out about the spirits that influenced them which they called the "invisible population". The main Gods were Odin, Thor, and Fraya, however there were also the elves, dwarfs, the water, ice, and land spirits that they needed to maintain relations with.

They also went to Sweden to see ancient Viking burial mounds, and then they took a journey to Borg Norway (above the Arctic circle), along with actress Maude Hirst (Helga) who they let row a reproduction of a Viking longboat, and to see the Viking graveyards. The more important Vikings were buried inside [within] their boats in very long graves (that held the whole boat), and pointed to the sea - undisturbed for a 1000 years. They also went to a Viking museum, and to a reproduction building of the Chieftain's Great Hall.

I have to say - Hirst is a very beautiful woman with a very nice accent.

Yes - that whole scene was almost intense. From Ivar's point of view - it was a do or die situation.

Maybe he does but just isn't saying anything or maybe he has ulterior motives as you said - in any case you're right - Bjorn is a very smart man.
I think he's got it all planned out, and we'll just have to wait & see how it plays out.


Why do we always have to watch them 2 or 3 times! :laugh: (rhetorical) I swear there is so much more to absorb in this series than in any other 1 hours dramas.

Another thingi noticed about Anslaug-

When she is startled awake, if you look close before her eyes open, she has eye (irises) painted on her eyelids so she looks like she's awake when her eyes are closed.

Lots of little details like that make a show better without viewers even realizing why.

She's also the daughter of Michael, the Vikings writer. Her sister Georgia is on the show as well:
