History Channel - Vikings

Ragnar and Floki settled that last season. The relationship remained uneasy, even into the Paris attacks.
I was really glad to see they went in the direction they did last night. Although I think it's going to create allegiance issues for Floki later in the season.
During the 'this season on Vikings' promo, they flash to a scene with Floki staring into the distance with fire and mayhem all around him. In my mind, I wondered if he was having an internal crisis on following Ragnar into something or stay with Bjorn.
When Lagertha comes to attack Kattegat, now that is going to be interesting since her and Aslaug have unfinished business and some of Ragnar's sons are staying behind to protect Kattegat.
Then we have Bjorn convincing Rollo to join him on his raids, which clearly upsets Gisla when we see Rollo trying to explain to her he can't deny that part of himself which is still Viking.

You don't need to apologize.
Ragnar didn't forgive Floki, at least that's the impresion I got, until he himself was broken and defeated. Last night's episode sort of felt to me like Ragnar making the rounds to apologize to everyone, then kill himself. That didn't work out how he planned, but I think part of that too (the attempt to hang himself) was Ragnar putting his faith in the gods to determine his destiny.

My observations: I thought the conversation between Bjorn/Seer was telling of how the season will play out when the Seer told him "not one calamity, but too many to number" ... it's going to be an exciting second half!
Ragnar seemed rather indifferent when Bjorn told him he had another son Magnus from Queen Cynethryth of Wessex - that make 6 boys - right(?).
I though the 3 brothers played a nasty trick on Ivar - trying to get him laid with the slave/servant girl knowing he couldn't get it up, and how jealous he was that all his brothers had their way with her.
I liked when Ragnar told Floki he loved him, and then Floki did the same - they were both acknowledging a longtime friendship.
The part I liked best was the tender moments between Ragnar/Lagertha when Ragnar said how he regrets what happened between them, and if she'd go to Wessex with him. Then she said she also had no regrets, and that they all thought following Ragnar was the right thing to do, and after he left - she walked outside and looked to be longing for him, and/or conquest. They still love each other.
I'm not sure why he tried to hang himself - does he miss her that much or just decided everything he's done turned into failure?
Next week looks to open into some good action sequences.

That is not how I interpreted what happened between the serving wench & Ivar, and in true history "Ivar the Boneless" had a son, Sigtrygg Ivarsson.
I think we should probably not discuss what I think really was going on.
Ragnar's disappearance makes me believe he expected to die on his own in the wilderness.
I guess when that didn't happened he decided to make his peace with everyone & then try for that glory once again.
When his ex wasn't willing to help him he figured, ah what the heck, I might as well just do what living in the wilderness while deathly ill couldn't do.
Then again, we don't know where Ragnar was all that time... do we?

Did any of you watch the new mini-series immediately following? It told (mostly) the story of Rollo "one of the most famous Vikings", partially narrated with Clive Standen.
^ I haven't read any history on this ... heck I barely have time for the show. In any case - that slave girl was a knockout!
My takeaway is that Ivar is almost a sociopath.

That isn't available on my Roku at the moment.
When I went to check, I did watch 'The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok'. That was really cool and was a bit emotional a couple times.

She said she would never embarrass him, but instead tell them of his virility and she would blame herself.
She did say the gods know the truth.
That was one of the touching parts of the show, seeing Ivar crying, as he's been a brutal person so far. Going back to axing the other young child in the head earlier in the season.

I'm thinking maybe four episodes left with Ragnar before he dies, which will really suck when he's gone.
I think Aella kills him as he said he would a few seasons ago.
I don't mind Bjorn, but he's not a leader like Ragnar. I'm not fond of the other four sons all that much so far. I like Ivar of the group.
No doubt I'll keep watching the show, but I don't think it'll be as good.

The actor playing Ivar has got some range, that's for sure. One minute I hate the dude, the next I'm almost crying with him. It seemed to me that his phosphorescent eyes weren't as glaring when he was having "softer" moments.
I didn't getto see any of the "side" episodes, the Saga, or the Rollo thing, but I'll definitely be looking for them somewhere.

I watched The Outsider again last night. I didn't pick up anything new from the last time, but some of those scenes hit me a little harder. Like the reaction from Floki after Ragnar said I love you.
Then Lagertha looking off into the distance as Ragnar rode away. At first I thought that was a look of sadness for not going with her ex-husband to England, but now I think the reality is hitting her that she is about to attack Kattegat, likely Kill Ragnar's current wife, and take away from Ragnar what she helped him capture.
