Totally! They have always seemed to acknowledge that they have both been burdened (in a way) by the weight of power. They both know it corrupted each of them totally. I love their talks and although we could equate them to the power hungry vermin that infest and posion our world I guess I have more tolerance for fictitious characters then I do our own disgusting politicians and corporate robber barons that have destroyed our country.

Totally! They have always seemed to acknowledge that they have both been burdened (in a way) by the weight of power. They both know it corrupted each of them totally. I love their talks and although we could equate them to the power hungry vermin that infest and posion our world I guess I have more tolerance for fictitious characters then I do our own disgusting politicians and corporate robber barons that have destroyed our country.
That could be true! His last strategic act! In his death he will exact revenge upon the Saxons. In fine Ragnar form. I am going to miss him
Every one’s sons are going to be out for revenge! Ragnar’s sons, Aslaugs sons (the same dudes of course but for different reasons) how weird for those kids to be avenging BOTH parents!
We also met Rollo's son William a couple episodes ago. He was a mighty warrior/leader. Perhaps he'll be looking to avenge his father for walking out on them. Hirsch doesn't stick close to documented history all the time, so this would be a deviation from accounted records.
Rollo's great-great-great grandson is actually the one who ended the Anglo-Saxon empire.
I still have serious doubts how long it will last after season five. If it does, maybe we'll meet William the Conqueror, although we won't be able to call the show Vikings anymore. They are mostly gone by then.
Interestingly too, there is an active research project looking into Rollo's ancestry to find out if he was Danish or Norwegian..

You might find this interesting.
I go back to Rollo through William the Conqueror, seems like Rollo had a failed attempt at Paris in the 880's, and later came back in a more peaceful manner. There is a period of twenty years or so were there is not much known about him. Before returning to Fancia a second time. Oddly enough I have another line on my paternal side that supposedly goes back to Sigurd Snake in the eye. Some believe his eye mark was from a PAX 6 protein mutation. Over time that mutation can evolve or create "Ocular Albinism" which is something that has plagued my father's side of the family. Not saying this is for sure, but it is theoretical the Sigurds eye condition still in someway moves on through advanced stages in the family. My father had it, as does my nephew, three first cousins, and one third cousin all have it. Both sisters and several female cousins are carriers. It appears due to its rate that it came from that line. Interesting stuff....sometimes the distant past is more relevant than we think.

Question: Towards the end of the episode, there was a 15 second shot of a one-eyed man in a ship. Who is that? Was it a quick time jump and that was one of the current characters? Are they introducing a new character? I'm so confused right now

Yeah, it sure was. I had to look away at the end. I just couldn't watch it. So sad, brutal, and made me angry with that dang fool Aelle smirking.
I try not to get attached like that to make believe TV shows, but dang man Travis Fimmel did such an awesome job with Ragnar, I felt like he was my buddy. Kind of like how @Solarmist mentioned previously, visiting a friend every week.
I have to say though, I was pissed when Ragnar told Ivar to leave Aelle alone.
Well done with the blind man driving the carriage Ragnar was in. Total closure on the prophecy from the Seer earlier this season.
Odin had one eye, so maybe that man on the boat we saw was supposed to be Odin?
I saw the preview for episode 16. Maybe I'm still too emotional about Ragnar dying, but it looked sort of lame with Ivar challenging Lagertha to a duel.
I wondered about when would be the time Harald starts making his move to kill Bjorn.
I read/watched some interviews with Fimmel last night. From what I could gather, he was ready to be off the show after season one. Seems like him and Hirst had a love/hate professional relationship.

There was a bunch of ravens circling the boat. Odin makes perfect sense.
Travis says Ragnar was to be killed after the first year, but they kept him going.

When Ecbert is turning Ragnar over, it's rainy, and Ecbert, Aethelwulf (sp), possibly Alfred, and Judith are on a dais with another person who I could swear was the same actress, Roman Polanski's daughter, who portrays Rollo's wife. The character looks a little androgynous and could be a servant (?).
It wouldn't be the first dual role on the show, as the Seer and the Pope were the same actor.
I will watch the episode again (and likely again later) and will definitely be watching for that part.

I did a basic DNA test and that showed 9% Scandinavian genetics. I have looked into other bits of information, and looked into the DNA database some. There are several things I want to look at in regards to my families genetic history. As far as Sigurd goes it makes sense The Great Heathen Army invaded and controlled the area around York for a while. The English family on my dad's side that leads back to him is from that area. I would like to find more information, and one day visit those areas myself.
Me too Mike. I just finished watching it and I hated every minute of it, in fact I skipped ahead a few times because I did not want to see Ragnar tortured and after the first snake bite I turned the whole thing off and later round from the end just a few minutes to see Ivar arriving back in Kattegat. I guess this was one case when Hirsch stuck to the legend of Ragnar, the pit of snakes
we shall see how long the show lasts now.
I agree – I was just a little worried about Ubbe keeping his temper in check. I think now Lagertha will become more protective of Ragnar’s sons knowing of his death, and their kinship to her being they are of Ragnars blood.
I wonder how Bjorn is going to react to the news of his fathers death, and will he be part of the attack on England?
That was so sad seeing him thrown into the wooden cage and carted away; in a way - it reminded me of The Green Mile. King Ecbert was right in that Aelle did make a show out of his death, and cutting the cross into his head was hard to watch. Actually all of it was hard to watch.

I agree. It's already filming for season six now, but I just don't see it having staying power or holding my interest like it has. I watched that show to see Ragnar.
I am curious to see if Rollo joins the raids on England, so I will for sure watch the rest of season four.
Hirsch said Rollo plays a major role in season five, and Lagertha too.
I've been reading Viking history on and off all day today trying to piece together what happens next. There is a rather significant battle between the English and Danes in 870AD that has it's anniverssary coming up December 31st.
