History Channel - Vikings

Interesting story lines tonight, but I don't like the one with Bjorn chasing that girl. It looks like Horik and Borg have some plans for Ragnar. That doesn't surprise me, I don't trust either of those guys.

Siggy looks like she is making her move with Horik. It will be interesting to see how Rollo responds when he figures it out. Siggy must think Horik can bring her the glory she lost.

That scene of Lagertha getting beat up was tough for me watch. I wonder if she's going to head back to Ragnar now.

I think I actually prefer the Athelstan story line over what's developing with Bjorn.

I think it's about time Bjorn had a love interest. A young man has needs, just sayin'.

Lagertha is super-smart. She took a beating when she had to but bided her time and got sweet payback. So, now that Suuralle has lost his head, is Lagertha the Baroness of Hedeby? Personally, I think the Lagertha-Ragnar ship has sailed and Lagertha will carve (literally) her own path forward. I think the actress playing Lagertha is really nailing it.

Nice little double-cross on Jarl Borg. I thought Horik would be more pi##ed about it than he was. I guess he trusts that Ragnar has thought this thing through. Well, maybe except for the part where Ragnar kills all of Jarl's men. I thought that was a little short-sighted. I guess Ragnar thought that they all had Kategaat blood on their hands. But, hey, they ain't nobody clean in this show. At least they have Jarl Borg's ships.

Siggy is definitely playing with fire. It wouldn't surprise me to see her head rolling across the floor very soon. There are several candidates for being on the other end of that blade.

The Athelstan story is getting more interesting as others have said. King Ecbert seems to be a pre-Renaissance Renaissance man. Athelstan has been trying to straddle the Christian-Pagan line but I think he's thoroughly boxed in now. If the church finds out his heresy, Ecbert will throw him under the bus and he's crucified for the second time. If he's captured by the Vikings, I believe they will lop his head off as a traitor. I know Floki would take personal pleasure in hacking Athelstan's head off.

Glad to see Lagertha get her revenge on her s***heel of a new husband. He got what he deserved. She's a shield maiden, a strong woman and in a good position to govern Hedeby. It genuinely did not seem like much of a surprise when the one man stepped up to behead Suuralle.

I suspect that Lagertha's previous with Ragnar to take back Kattegat will continue forward. Even though Ragnar is with Aslaug, Lagertha clearly believes in Ragnar and the direction in which he's taking his people. I would expect that some of the men of Hedeby will be among those that Ragnar takes on his next raid to England.

Jarl Borg definitely came across as more than a little crazy, consulting the skull of his dead wife. I was also a little surprised that he would be taken in by Ragnar. Their people had already fought twice. And after Borg had taken Kattegat and was trying to hunt down Ragnars family, I didn't think that Ragnar would be so practical and ready to compromise. He really is ruthless when the need arises.

I suspect that Horik is willing to play along with Ragnar because of the fact that Ragnar represents Horik's power base. But along with that comes the possibility that Horik recognizes how powerful Ragnar is becoming in his own right, and may attempt to eliminate Ragnar in order to maintain his own power. That seems to be at the root of Horik's relationship with Siggy, as he tried to get more information about Ragnar.

With Athelstan, I can see him holding his secrets as blackmail on Ecbert when the Vikings return.
-Mike

I don't know about that. King Ecbert holds sway over the local church officials and it would be an easy matter to portray Athelstan as a lying, wild-animal-like Pagan apostate who cannot be believed about anything. Allowing the church to crucify him quickly after any blackmail threat would be a whole bunch of win for Ecbert. I still think Athelstan is basically scr*w*d.

Oh Jarl Borg....it's the Blood Eagle for you. I am not sure I wanna watch that one. This episode was incredible!! Revenge all around both for Ragnar and Lagertha. How nice of that fellow to remove Siebart's foul head from his shoulders.

That was a fabulously sneaky plot on Ragnar's part and am so happy to see Ragnar showed Horik that he is not his puppet!! I was thinking he really had decided to join forces with Jarl Borg.

Do you think Siggy knew at the time that she told Horik "Ragnar is different, what you think he will do he will do the opposite" that she knew the real plan?

Did Bjorn put the girl in his hut because he knew the barn where she stays was full of Jarl Borgs men was going to be torched? I also didn't quite get the scene with her dancing. What was that all about?? So we could see Bjorn swoon over her?

Oh how I love Floki~ "can you keep a secret?" ......hee hee no. He is just awesome. Now he knows something is going on with Siggy And Horik. I imagine Rollo already knows given the way he stormed out on Siggy.

This is going to be a long week of waiting....

Jarl Borg is one crazy cat. Talking to the polished skull of his deceased bride and then having his present wife carry it around for him. Kind of reminded me of Icelandic necropants.

Yeah, eewwww not only did he talk to the dead skull he KISSED IT. What a freak!! Then he makes his poor wife carry it?? I imagine she may get along just fine in Kattegat without him, although she did say she thought it was a yucky place when she was there before. I wonder what will become of her now?? She is preggers with the nut jobs' wee one. Will they allow that child to be born? Given he may have to take revenge on his dead father's behalf?

I dunno..Athlestan is a pretty stand-up dude and he may honestly enjoy the job he's ben charged with doing. I think he is sort of thrilled to be able to take that job on. He appreciates the beauty of the art just as Eckbert does, and isn't Eckbert a surpize?? He is kinda cool really. He is not so blinded by his christian faith that he has stopped thinking for himself about the truth of the world. He is smart, and I like him! Although of course he sees the pagan ways as powerful so that he can do as they did and conquer the world, which is quite possibly his grand plan. Is he a psychopath who thinks he can rule the world?

Horik and Borg can't have plans for Ragnar given that Borg is gonna be dead very soon. And in a most nasty way! The Blood Eagle!!

Horik would be a total fool (and we know he actually is a fool..but..) to try anything against Ragnar especially while he is in Kattegut. No...I am pretty sure at least for now, that Ragnar is still the head honcho and he showed Horik who is boss.

That was so awesome!! I wonder about the scene when Ragnar was standing outside with the huge (eagle) how did he know about the eagle? Did the seer tell him do ya think?? The seer was the one who told Borg he had the eagle around him. Either that or maybe we are to assume that Ragnar can talk to animals. He is so good with animals. He does have a certain spiritual power to him, so maybe he and the eagle had a little chat about what should be done with Borg?

I highly doubt that Lagertha is heading back to Ragnar, she has her own kingdom now~~~ looks like the people of Hedeby are pretty much with her. I don't know if that guy cut of her husband's head to put him out of misery, or to show her that he too thought the guy was a moron.

mmm yes but we did see Siggy in the with the seer saying she wants her old position back. She wanted to know if The Gods would ever smile upon her again. It seems like the seer thought they would. She wants power, she told Aslaug a few weeks ago that she felt women should rule.
I think Siggy is gonna pull something, she can't have had all that loss, and not have some level of anger about it. She had everything, and it was all stripped away from her. She wants it back. If Rollo finds out she's been sleeping with Horik...ooh that is not gonna be pretty! Although....Rollo slept around on her too so...what's good for the goose...??

Did you see the preview for next week? I don't think Borg is going to die.

-Mike

Ragnar said he was going to draw The Blood Eagle on his back..so yes, that means he is going to die!!! Do you honestly think after all this that he can let the man live?? No...he must die. It is not gonna be pretty.

Here is a bit about The Blood Eagle:

"The Blood Eagle was a method of torture and execution that is sometimes mentioned in Nordic saga legends. It was performed by cutting the ribs of the victim by the spine, breaking the ribs so they resembled blood-stained wings, and pulling the lungs out through the wounds in the victim's back. Salt was sprinkled in the wounds. Victims of the method of execution, as mentioned in skaldic poetry and the Norse sagas, are believed to have included King Ælla of Northumbria, Halfdan son of King Haraldr Hárfagri of Norway, King Maelgualai of Munster, and possibly Archbishop Ælfheah of Canterbury."

2 areas I think haven't been delved into this round.

Siggy - ok, she tells the old oracle dude how disappointed she is, how she wants to have status again. But she doesn't really dump her disappointment on Ragnar, at least it doesn't come off that way to me. Seems she is more upset with the Gods. Which sort of runs into "Rollo".

The historical story has Rollo becoming an Earl in his own right. Is it possible Ragnar will tell Rollo, "Brother, for all you have done, taking watch over my family, fighting for our village, helping defeat Yarl Borg - I give you Yarl Borg's lands". OF course King Horik would have a say since the lands were contested but I could see Rollo moving up in the world shortly.

I saw the trailer, it looks like King Horik might help Yarl Borg escape? And what the heck is going to go down in Lagertha's world. My wife and I are hoping the men there are like,'we've heard so much about Ragnar, can you hook us up with him?" Viking warrior groupies.

Heh, you're still gaming that Siggy is gonna go full snake. Game continues.....in Viking World.:bassist:
