Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Limited German Ed Sullivan edition. 31/64. I got a great deal. It came with all the unopened case candy including the strap, signed Beatles gear book and coa.
I had the pickguard off, but put it back on. I just got it yesterday. It sounds great.

For general edification, I got a reply from Hofner on this question, to which they say a vintage Verithin will fit in the new case, providing it still has the original tuners. Apparently, space is a little tight around the headstock and larger replacement tuners may prevent the bass from fitting in.
As the Schallers on mine are guitar-sized, I might get away with it for mine.
Anyone know when the Icon first became available? A friend of mine bought his when it first came out and we're trying to figure out when that was.

I think it was 2007 or 2008, I remember seeing them when they first came out in musicians friend. I knew I had to have one. Because of that bass, the 500/1 is still my main bass.
Hi Ivan, yes it does. It actually looks different than what I was expecting. When I first saw these last year online, I was turned off by the gold. It's actually one of the prettiest Hofners I've ever owned. Something about the finish reminds me of cinnamon toast. Lol. When the nitro ambers out a bit, it will really look terrific. Cool thing is the coa in the book and bass were signed on2-9-1014..50 ur anniversary to the day of the Beatles first Sullivan appearance. Of course not important, but cool.
Those icons now ignition are really good. The key is taking those stock strings off. Once quality flats are on with a good set up.. Wow. I think most that see them as junk pick them up at the store when no set up has been done and those cheap rounds ate still on the bass.... Not a fair representation of what it really can sound like.
Howdy! I recently made the switch over from a Kala UBASS to a Hofner Ignition Club. I wanted to put some nylon tapes on, so I ordered the RotoSound RS88s, but didn't realize that the larger size would mess up the intonation so much. Put the stock strings back on and ordered the La Bella Hofner Beatle Bass set on October 7 from BassStringsOnline and I'm still waiting... patiently...
Anyways, the main point to my post is that I'm traveling quite a bit lately and miss not having my bass around. I noticed that some brave souls are walking around the airport with guitars in gig bags and then put them in the overhead. While I realize that this is better than checking it as baggage, I'm still concerned that if I tried that on a full flight I could run the risk of having it checked at the last minute. I ordered the bass with the Hofner HSC, but not sure if that would be allowed in the overhead.
Any comments from traveling folks with hollow Hofners?

The hofner HSC is pretty small, so it would be more likely to fit. They put mine in a closet on the plane. So you may be able to do that.

Ok, only a week or so after getting the V62 I posted a page or 2 ago, I found the Ignition version of the Ed Sullivan bass. I'd seen these before and was very impressed with the color of the burst. Also the poly is sprayed very thin and mimics nitro pretty well. Anyway, since I found it second hand cheap, I had to get it. It came with flats and tea cup knobs already installed. I didn't plan on modding it at all. However, the posts on the bridge are exposed on these where as on the German and CTs, they are not. This made it very uncomfortable for my hand so I purchased a cheapo that looks and functions the same as the German bridge. It was rosewood so I had to paint it black...no problem. Then I figured why stop. I have a lot of spare parts in the bin so I put on an old German tailpiece and some white switch covers for the knobs. The covers I purchased years ago and back then, I wasn't happy they were white as I wanted cream ones. I almost forgot I had them and they work well with this bass since making the control panel darker isn't an easy task. I don't think the brown shoe polish works well. While I was putting lemon oil on the fretboard, I did a little cosmetic work to the nut...just because. I am not making this something it isn't, just having fun. It plays and looks great.

When I received my Ignition Club a few months back, it had strip of foam sheet material under the bridge. I don't like the way it looks, but read somewhere that it helps protect the finish. Thoughts?
nevermind - I found some answers from earlier pages to remove it, but either use tape to mark position of bridge or Sharpie dots.
