This is a nice option. All the more reason to be glad that we have these lower priced models available to us. I couldn't see modding a $3000 instrument.

Thanks! FYI I owned a German 500-1 for 23 years. I received it as birthday gift in 1967 and had it through 1990, when I received an offer I couldn't refuse, so I let it go. But I always intended to re-acquire, when the time was right, and then there it was...and the price was right (something you don't see on the German models anymore)

Anyone know what kind of Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds fit the Icon Club bass? I read that the normal shortscale jazz flats are too thick to fit through the tail-piece and the Beatle Bass strings say that they won't fit through the hole in the tuning pegs. I really want to throw a set of Thomastik flats on mine, but I don't want to be out $60 for strings that don't fit.

The set pictured above (JF 324 short scale) was on an Ibanez EB3, I've checked it beside the original Höfner string on my Cavern. The silk winding is a bit higher on the string and they are thicker, but not to the extend that they won't fit, it seems to me. Höfner H1133 B Beatle bass strings 45-105 are sold to fit on a violin bass, so if that fits 43-106 will fit too.
Otherwise 40-100 will fit for sure.
